Headed out to the range today to sight in my .30-06, and decided to bring the .460 along for some entertainment.

I setup my chrony to see how consistent the loads were.

The .30-06 load I used was the Federal Fusion 180gr factory, and the .460 load was 115grs of IMR4350 and the 500gr Hornady RN.

The rifles are Weatherby Vanguard SubMOA and the Mk V Deluxe (Jap model with pendleton brake)

With the .460, I fired at 50yds from the bench and the 2 shots registered just under an inch at 2550fps and 2535fps.

The .30-06 ran 2751fps to low of 2729fps. And the shot at 100yds.

Thats a pretty good speed for a 500gr. I took it to 2500 but found 2400 was sweet to shoot. The 450's at 2450 was even nicer and worked great on deer.

Yeah, I brought along a box of the old elephant ammo. I fired two rounds through the chrony and the first one did 2692 and the second was 2505! Quite the variance.
I found it quite manageable from the bench. The first elephant load was a bit brisk though :)
Mounted a 1-4x20 Leupy on her and it seems pretty good. Checked the ring screws between firings and nothing loosened.

I would have to check my book but 110gr of H4350 rings a bell with the 450's. I don't think I got past 115gr without bullets pushing back too much. I loaded a few one night and rechecked the scale to see that I bumped it 10 gr too high. Not many guns can handle that. I laughed and shot them off the next day. Probably similar load to the elephant box ammo.

I might just drop it down to 2400. I have some H4350 also, so your loads would be much appreciated. Top end loads go up to 120grs, so lots of room for a slight overcharge of 10grs...lol

I personally found the un-braked .378 I used to own worse. It had a lighter recoil, but was much faster.
I was expecting worse, but with the Pendleton it kept the muzzle jump down quite well. Recoil figures put the load at 96ft/lbs. Then the brake is supposed to reduce about 25%.
