AG42b Accuracy?

I love my ag42b, I almost didn't buy it when I had the chance but when I saw how the whole bolt mechanism worked it was sold, mostly sond on "neatness" factor but turns out its an awesome shooter!

I've had 3 of these AG42's over the years and they are absolutely a deadly shooter. Very easily the most acurate military surplus semi I ever fired. They do throw empties a LONG ways like so many others posted and that is absolutely normal. I have fired surplus Swedish ammo(likely Norma), Norma commercial stuff, PriviPartisan, Imperial and Rano ammo and the empties always end up a LONG ways away. I fired probably a couple thousand rounds through these rifles over the years and have yet to ever experience a jam or any malfunction of anykind for that matter. I can't say they were any less accurate than my tack driving Swedish short rifles either. I often wished I would have had a scope on an AG42 to see what it was really capable of. Very well made and accurate rifle. I never reloaded for the AG42 though so I can't speak in regards to powders and loads for that particular gun. If you're looking at buying one, rest assured they are good rifles!

I had a scope on one of mine. Typical group was around 1.5" at 100 yards. I never shot handloads from it, so I can't say if it would have done better with hand loads crafted for it. Far less accurate than the bolt action M96 in the same chambering. My bolt action Swedish mauser is good for 1/2" groups with the same ammo. It predictably threw the brass about 20 feet to around 1:00 O'clock if you took a standing shot. I could walk to that spot and pick up all my brass in about a 3-4' circle. Unfortunately it usually dented the necks of the brass.

Back when surplus rifles were cheap and plentiful, chamberings like 30-06, 303 and 8mm mauser were much more popular and sold for more. The 6.5x55 was the red headed stepchild of the surplus rifle world, and the Ag42b was right at the bottom of the heap. You could buy really mint ones after all the other guns were sold out.
