Aguila .22 problems!

I have a beautiful new Ruger bolt action .22 that takes the Ruger 10 rnd. rotary mags. At the range, I had a problem with extraction with the Aguila .22 ammo. About every 3rd or 4th shot, the spent casing wouldn't extract and I had to use the tip of my knife to get it out. I tried Federal and CCI .22 and had no extraction problems. Has anyone else encountered this?

I had issues galore with Aguila when I tried it in my semi auto .22lr rifles. FTF, FTE etc.
.22lr can have finicky reliablity in general sometimes and not every gun likes every ammo. Although a 10/22 is usually pretty good to go on mostly any ammo in my experience, I still had issues in both my semi auto .22lr rifles with Aguila.
Admittedly just my sample size of 1 but that has been my experience.

My experience with Aquila has been just the opposite of what your experiences have been, but I'm only using bolt action rifles mostly.

Some rifles don't like it though. I've fired several thousand through my Tikka T1X and it's one of the most reliable and accurate brands of ammo it prefers.

LawrenceN, do you happen to have a match chamber in your rifle??? Is the extractor lip edge sharp or rounded?

Could be the rim diameter, have you measured the rim by any chance?

Aquila standard velocity shoots great in everything I have tun it through, Winchester not so much but the Aquila I have shot works like CCI/Blazer, just works.

I have shot lots of Aquilla through my BL22, 2 different CZ's and a CA ranger never had any issues, not the most accurate but plenty good for plinking and gophers

I had a similar thing happen in my savage bolt action, where only CCI ammo would consistently not extract, aguila ironically was the most consistently extracted in that particular situation. Could be a dirty chamber though, weak extractor spring, rounded extractor with not enough "bite" or just bad luck as the occasional rimfire rifle has quirks and preferences that just dont seem to make any sense at all, or a bad lot of ammo. Hope you find a fix. Personally ive never had any annoying quirks with cz rimfires.

One of my Savage MK IIs does that with cci mini mags.

I found if I #### the bolt and drop the hammer a second time it extracts more often than not. Not a solution per say, but saves from having to dig out the pocket knife every time.

I don't know if it's a match chamber, but it's not a well used or older rifle. As I mentioned, the CCI, Federal, and even the old Dominion ammo had zero problems with extraction. I'm using the Aguila Super Extra hollow point. I have to do a count of remaining rounds but I'd trade these for CCI mini-mags or stingers.

Some Ruger 22LR rifles do come from the factory with a 'match' chamber.

Your rifle's owners manual will advise as to the chamber and the recommended ammunition.

That's what I'm using in my Tikka T1X. It's tight in that chamber but never any extraction issues.

I built a custom Martini for my grandson, and used my 22lr match chamber reamer. Martini extraction can be tedious at times, especially with 22rf ammunition. That rifle has no issues with the Aguila but it does have extraction issues with Stingers and other high velocity ammunition.

I’m wondering all of the above:
Rim thickness?
Rim diameter?
Changer too short and bullet hitting the lands possibly affecting the expanded case after firing?

Just spitballing solutions.

I’ve only ever had problems with a Cooey blowing cases out the rim due to too much headspace. Nothing else if ever had has trouble firing, feeding, extracting. And most things cycle in everything I’ve used/owned unless they’re really low pressure such as 22Short in a semi.

I hope this sorts out for you. It’s nice to be able to feed it whatever you want, whatever you can find, whatever you can find. Especially when and if things become expensive or hard to source.

I've only had issues with the Remington bucket of jams in my semi, with Aguilla I've never had any issues. I do own a Ruger with a competition barrel , but it's only had issues with mini mags but it says not to use it in the manual.
