Aguila .22 problems!

is 40 gr Standard Velocity accurate ammo?
maybe needs an new thread.....
It is when you find a rifle that like it, as is with most .22lr ammo I find. I have on bolt action .22 that shoots Aguila pretty accurately that I will hunt small game with it, another that is more of a plinker accuracy. Iirc the SV stuff was better for me.

From my experience, Aguila seems to be on the high end of the tolerance for 22lr. For my firearms, that is a good thing.

My Ruger Wrangler, Aguila 40gr is the only ammo that I have found that doesn't keyhole every round (I haven't tried their 38gr or the subsonic).
For my TM22, it is one of the brands of ammo I have found that doesn't jam in the magazine (every Federal line I have tried jams every time).
All my other 22s like Aguila too. (maybe not my Winchester model '04; everything seems to jam in the chamber)

I had issues galore with Aguila when I tried it in my semi auto .22lr rifles. FTF, FTE etc.
.22lr can have finicky reliablity in general sometimes and not every gun likes every ammo. Although a 10/22 is usually pretty good to go on mostly any ammo in my experience, I still had issues in both my semi auto .22lr rifles with Aguila.
Admittedly just my sample size of 1 but that has been my experience.
agreed. 10/22 didnt like it

I have a beautiful new Ruger bolt action .22 that takes the Ruger 10 rnd. rotary mags. At the range, I had a problem with extraction with the Aguila .22 ammo. About every 3rd or 4th shot, the spent casing wouldn't extract and I had to use the tip of my knife to get it out. I tried Federal and CCI .22 and had no extraction problems. Has anyone else encountered this?
I found that I had two issues with the Aguila 22 lr. Compared to three other brands that I compared it to, the rim was slightly thicker than the others. It also left a little more waxy buildup on the breech face of my model 41 which would keep the rim from seating fully. Combine these two issues and after a while I was having very inconsistent extraction. If I removed the buildup on the face the problem would be much better but that required much more attention to keep the face clean and didn't completely solve the problem. I ended up taking two swipes with a file on the extractor hook, removing a couple thou. This solved my extraction problem and has caused no issues with other ammo.

Once I did this, the Aguila shoots good for me.

Not 22 but my Tikka 6.5 cm did not like Aguila at all.
I use those for foul in shots now 🤪

I did some measuring on some rounds and the difference in OAL was significant.
Additionally, upon inspection the primer holes were very inconsistent.
Explains why they were so cheap!

A friend was having issues in his Tikka, I've found them to be one of very few cartridges that work in ALL of y22s. This includes subcal kits for my Glock and Sig. For my Ruger American Rimfire, I feed it their SSS lin. Maybe try CCI TAC, I've had good luck with it.

I've shot 3 kinds of Aguila in my Savage MK2 and CZ457 and the Savage gummed up within 10 rounds while the CZ didn't.
My solution is to spray some isopropylic alcohol on an old t-shirt, dump 500 rounds on the t-shirt and spray some more alcohol on the ammo.
Next I make a bundle of the t-shirt with the ammo inside and massage the bundle for a minute.
This transfers some of the wax to the fabric and greatly reduces the gumming.

Aguila gums up chambers fast. Brushing every 10 rounds is a pain, plus it is a waste of money for any shooting.
Many Savage 22 LR are shipped with close to match chamber. CCI stingers have longer case length longer then normal 22 LR, therefore the case jams and is hard to extract. RUGER 10/22 have sewer pipe size chambers so as to feed all and extract.
