Ok I didn't kill it, but managed to maim my chrony.

I've heard stories from people but always told myself it wouldn't happen to me. I'm always so careful bla bla bla.

But I was shooting my .308 testing some loads and my muzzle must have been hopping a little off the bipod to the right and i would then recenter with my butt end causing my line of shot to keep moving to the right till I took aim with my next shot and BAM, my next shot had my white diffusers flying all over the place.

I managed to fire through my right guide rod. Thankfully I didn't hit the unit. but still funny.

I always put a big rock or chunk of concrete in front of the unit itself to to and give it some protection but I the height was fine, just off to the side.

Nothing a vise and a pair of pliers won't fix to straighten back up the rod.

I suspect they have more 'repeat customers' by misadventure then they care to count. I have herd there are two types of reloaders, those who have shot a crony and those who are going to.

A buddy of mine hit the rod of my "Chrony" with a pistol round once -- cracked the plastic casing as it tore away from the chrony ----Has NEVER happened again, since I started using plastic soda straws on cloudy days --- The light diffuser is a last resort.

buy some wooden dowelling to replace the steel rods - they tend to break off without damaging the chrony when you nail'em.

I borrowed one from a friend once and killed it dead.

It's hard to act like nothing happened when you shoot a crony right through the brain and it flies half way to the butts.

I borrowed one aswell, and didnt know how far to place it - muzzle blast blew the screen off. I searched and searched couldnt find it. :(

Welcome to the club. I think I hold the record for longest toss of the rod. I found mine 50 yards downrange after 45 minutes of looking.

Take Care

I hit my first one about 10 years ago square on one of the rods - 115gr 25-06 bullet at about 3100 fps. The shrapnel spray did the chrony in good. Always line it up with the scope on low power so you can see the rods......

I am a proud member of the first group.:p There were three graze marks of copper before it took one right through the LED. :p

One thing that I did when I first got mine was use 5/32 welding rod and bent them into a square frame, helped alot.

I would offer to send you the other screens and such but I am not sure where all that stuff is anymore....

Good friend of mine asked to use my Chrony one day. I said sure, but if you hit it you'll own it. Needless to say his very first round drilled through both screens. After that, with his generous support, I was able to upgrade to a Gamma Master with the separate read out. He always hands me his gun to shoot his trial loadings now; so much for the saying an old dog can't learn.

Haha glad to hear that i'm not alone

I'd take pics but my damage really isn't that special. It just bent the rod and damaged a bit of the brass rod link thing. The diffusers survived, just got thrown around.

I managed to straighten the rod somewhat in a vise and opened the brass joiner with some pliers.

good to go.

I always stick a big rock or piece of concrete in front of the unit in some hopes of some kind of protection against getting shot.

My buddy shot it like 4 times... The chrony was actually made in Canada, so he took it to the manufacturer and had it fixed for low cost... at some point he even upgraded it. So, check where it is made and contact manufacturer for repair or spare parts.

No shame at all in shooting a Chrony, you just try to not do it _too_ terribly often ;-)

AR-15s are particularly good for shooting a Chrony, the high sight line / low bore line is a winning combination...!

Yes, but with such a tiny bullet and wimpy power the hole should be barely noticible.:nest:

Funny you should mention that (wish I had a camera here...). A very .22" small hole in the front sensor, as you would expect. Then a ~1" diameter hole in the middle partition, I think an entrained plastic chunk blew through there. And two bigger holes blown through the back. (even a small wimpy little 62 grainer can haul along a lot of sympathetic shrapnel! ;-)

Being a chrony manufacturer is a stroke of genious. You make a product and charge a decent price for it. Your products roll in life is to sit very close to the business end of a gun. You know full well that your product is very likely to blown to hell by someone shooting it......then they buy parts from you, or buy another whole unit from you. Think about it. It's brilliant!!!! :D
