I spent the whole afternoon shooting gophers northwest of Mankota. There sure aren't as many as the last two years, but with warning shots included, I must have shot off around three hundred rounds. I usually stationed myself at a fence post and waited for the little buggers to pop up. I use a Ruger stainless 10/22, wood stock, no alterations. I have a Bushnell 3-9 Trophy on it. I popped a good number at 50-125 yds. I have two Eagle 30 rounders, and was using WW 1280 fps hollow points. No malfunctions, other than when a .22 shotshell got chambered and fired. It didn't extract. I had used up a few oddball shells, and that one was by mistake.:p:p

I made it out to where gopherxs was cutting hay and shot all afternoon. It was pretty windy, so lots of warning shots with the .22. Ah, but the shotgun was a different story!! I have a Beretta A-M-301 for gopher shooting. Works good, very little recoil. I took a few pics for those requiring proof - or should I say POOF!

Gopherxs: I went out to that same spot again on Friday afternoon and shot from 12:00 til about 2:30. Smeared a few more!! Thanks for the invite!

Glad you could get back for some more shooting. If anybody else out there has an itchy trigger finger I doubt kjohn managed to shoot all the little buggers, so let me know if you would like to come for a shoot.:welcome:

KJohn, what's a good shotgun load for the formidable gopher horde? Last weekend I defended the campsite with the 14" 12ga Valtro, shooting 3" Steel Magnum BB & #2 loads that an old buddy gave me. Even at 20 yards, the little buggers still ran down their holes. Maybe I'll have to get out the old Spanish double with a little tighter chokes. Had to switch to the 45-70 Levergun. Even my wife can kill stuff with that.

We had a super gopher season here until the grain & grass got too high. Cheers
