I picked this one up recently from Clay at Prophet River.

I have read for years about AHR upgrades to the CZ 550 and other rifles, as well as their custom rifles.

This one has their worked over 550 action, 23" Mcgowen barrel, 1-10" twist. Beautiful trigger, NECG rear sight with flip up leaf, a very nice banded front sight. Barrel band . Bottom metal is very nice. AHR 3 position safety.

The stock is a beauty and it also came with an AHR fiberglass stock as well. Vx6 1-6 with the Talley rings coated to match the rifle.

It feeds very smooth. I have an older 550 that also feeds great, but. I have used it for 16 years .

Will send some pics. This is the nicest looking rifle I have owned. The fit and finish are just perfect.

Thanks for looking

Craig

That's one great looking rig and optics set up.
Hope you get to slam a buffalo or a big Brown with it some day.
Thanks for posting.

Wow, that is a beauty! Don't wait for the DG hunt, put it to use on a WT or BB in the interim.

I just had time to unwrap it and take a few pictures. Tested the function with some dummy rounds .

I will weigh it and hopefully get some rounds through it next week. It is lighter than my old 550 in 375 H&H . I do like these sights better than the factory ones. I don't shoot with sights often, but these ones are just "There" when I shoulder the rifle. Maybe that bright red front helps with that's bit.

Thanks for the kind comments! I was so excited when I saw this up for sale. I would have a hard time parting with a rifle like this .

The 1-10" twist should work great for the 350 grain bullets . Wayne from AHR said should be no problem with the 260 accubonds that worked so well for me from whitetails here to plains game in Namibia.

The trigger is further back with the AHR vs factory 550. The bolt shroud has the AHR safety which looks different as well.

Hope she shoots as good as it looks!

That rifle deserves to be shot, hunted and posed over game... incredibly fortunate purchase... congrats.

I would probably load the 300 grain Partitions and call it a wrap.

Don’t mind me saying, this is too clean for a hunting rifle , no scratches no dents no marks ..... you need to go for a loooong walk in the jungle
What kind of dangerous game have you got planned ?

What a beautiful rifle, well done!

I like fast twist barrels and I've never had an issue with loss of accuracy when shooting light bullets in them. I occasionally shoot cast in my .375, and with cast bullet a fast twist can lead to severe leading which is why I stuck with 1:12 rather than something faster. When shooting long bullets like 350 gr Woodleighs or 380 gr Rhinos, the faster rotational velocity ensures a shorter precess (yaw) time at impact, resulting in deeper, straighter penetration, and less chance of damage to the bullet base or a canted expanded nose.

Hoping to get a hunt in for Cape Buffalo once the world straightens out. I will probably use my 458 for that, possibly 416 but I have my 458 working good now.

This one will be coming with for plains game , it needs some use for sure. I need to get some 300 A-frames and try out some of the 350 woodleigh as well.

@Boomer I haven't heard any bad things about the faster twist. I have heard great things about the 380 Rhino and the 350 woodleighs. Think it would be difficult to find the Rhino bullets up here though.

I've got mine.

A low density target shows how the Rhinos expand

A 380 Rhino fully expanded with 270 gr XLC and 300 gr X for comparison, fired from 20' into drill mud

A load of 4350 produced 2300, and another 50 fps was gained with H100V shot from 20" .375 Ultra Brno 602 carbine with a scout scope

Good grief that Rhino is an inch wide! I have read from Kevin Robertson that those have the visual effects on buffalo out of the 375 that the 416's have. Or close to it. That is a bloody big mushroom and I can see why those in RSA, Namibia have been speaking so highly of them.
