AI rifles: worth it or not?

Don't forget that resale value determines something like 80% of cost of ownership.
Owning a Sako TRG22 is not expensive since Sako TRG22s keep their value and resale very well.

"Bingo" !

We of the "Civilian", "Mall Ninja", "Soldier/Cop Wanna be" ilk don't need all that rugged utility stuff, to be sure. "So what"?

These features are just a bonus you get along with the high (Sako guarantees 1/2 moa out of the box) accuracy, and enduring value of these military grade rifles. They make an interesting piece to own, shoot beyond the honest capabilities of most shooters, and are worthy of any "Mall Ninja's" collection.

"Love my TRG-42,,, haiiii-ya :D !

Dunno if they've gone under again yet, but Dakota's "Longbow" and "Scimitar" are worth a drool too. Since you're lookin ;).

Dear Mr Robertson,

Your "NO" seems to be a pretty resounding "NO" ...

Knowing that you are not exactly a novice in rifles, may I ask you to elaborate a bit ? I am sure that I am not the only one here that would like to read what are your reasons and opinions.

My AI gets used and abused on a weekly basis. It usually gets put away covered in dust and dirt, then hauled out the next day or week for more shooting fun. Its a great rifle and I've never had a problem with it. I have a few other rifles that cost a fraction of what I paid for my AI, and they are also used and abused weekly, and I've never had a serious issue with any of them either. But I've put more rounds through my AI than all my other precision rifles combined because recoil is minimal, accuracy potential is high, 308 reloads are inexpensive, and I feel like the rifle will never wear out. This rifle is fun to shoot and fun to own. I'm not a "mall ninja" or "urban cowboy", I'm a practical shooter like many of you on CGN. I personally feel that an AI is worth the extra $$$.

Just what can an AI or TRG do that custom cant? Reliability, weight or accuracy. You could probably do just as well with a custom.

Well, from what I gather, they 'work' good straight off the rack... so you're buying peace of mind (kind of)

And for the Joe-Blo civilian average shooter... it will not loose as much $$ when it comes time to sell it... which must be good, because target rifles are often big money pit ;) not that we're complaining...
(there are worst way to loose money... like the stock market as an example)
