Quick question before I place an order for mags. I'm new to the precision world and as a first upgrade to my Remington 700 AAC-SD, upgraded my factory noodle stock to a proper HS precision inletted with ATRS DBM. I know AI mags are best of the best but while shopping around have noticed some cheaper alternatives (MDT, magpul) and am wondering what experience you guys have had and your recommendations. Buy one AI mag to start out with or will I be well served with a couple magpuls?

Appreciate any insight :)

That's the impression I've got from online reviews. Heard mostly good things about the magpuls but also that they can be sometimes finicky and require a bit of fitting, guess I will just have to try both and see what works. If it was a common theme I'd prefer to just buy what works the first time. Trying to save pennies where I can, this precision game gets pricey fast lol

I've got a 700 AAC-SD .308 sitting in an HS Precision (5R take off) stock with ATRS DBM.

I purchased two Magpul magazines (the 5 rounders) and neither were okay. Would not seat loaded on a closed bolt, and the bolt would drag the feed lips when closing. A few minutes with a small file to remove that drag area and I've got two great magazines. Kind of inconvenient to do for new magazines, but the price was right.

Older MDT .308 10 round magazines will not take 10 rounds. If you load 10 rounds the side of the magazine will bulge and you may not be able to load the mag in the rifle. You can only load 9 rounds to ensure fit and function.

I have used the AI AICS 5 and 10 round magazines for over 10 years and never had a feed issue with them.

Sounds like we've got a similar setup. I ended up ordering two magpul mags and one AI, to compare and also to shoot the cheaper ones in the gravel pit I frequent on weekends :)

Might be sending you a PM next week depending on what kind of fit I get! Fingers crossed.
