AIA mags in M14?

You don't engrave the floorplate, you engrave the magazine body...... Then the RCMP will suspect that the magazine never was made for an autoloader..... And plug the rivet hole with some bubble gum or something so it isn't noticeable.

Ha ha ha! What flavour of gum were you thinking? Or while getting the mag body engraved have the word LUBE--> and that arrow thingy engraved pointing to the now empty rivet hole.....

With regard to the LAR-15 Mags, were you asked to send an example to the RCMP for inspection, or was it your idea? The reason I ask is that I am unclear as to why you needed to submit one.

I honestly don't remember... that was a few years ago and my memory is turning to mush with age :p

I have one last question for you Mark. I have seen you mention that a hand gun must be " commonly available " in order for it's magazines to meet the first criteria. Is it written in law that this also applies to rifle magazines ?

You'd have to read the law as it's written and see what exactly it says.

I'm not a lawyer.

Decision

Where did this quote come from?

Yes the RCMP have made a determination. These magazines are legal.

"- the magazine design for this rifle, in calibre 7.62MM NATO has been determined to be a purpose built, proprietary design intended for a bolt action rifle (notwithstanding its incidental ability to be inserted into some other designs with varying degrees of success). Although this magazine design is similar to that used on the M14/M1A type rifles, differences, including the absence of a locating hole on the front of the magazine and a different détente on the rear of the magazine are significant enough to distinguish it from a magazine intended for use in any automatic or semi-automatic rifle of known design. This decision only applies to newly manufactured magazines intended for use in bolt action rifles, commonly known as the Lee-Enfield design as produced/supplied by Australian International Arms (AIA). Design characteristics also distinguish these newly manufactured magazines from their original Lee-Enfield counterparts. These new magazines are intended for use with a rimless cartridge (7.62MM NATO) as opposed to the original rimmed 303 BRITISH cartridge (this also precludes its use in the Charleton Automatic Rifle).

why doesnt DLASK or whomever other company that can build custom rifles, make a halfassed bolt action rifle, as long as it goes bang, who cares what it looks like, and make it so that the mags that are specifically designed for this said bolt action, also happens to fit inside an AR....

cough, legal 30rd mags in our AR's :)

....and then make another version of the rifle in which the mags also fit HK/Sig/CZ whatever rifles. :)

Because they would have to have the mags made for that exact rifle...

I thought about a solution for this issue a while ago. Change the geometry of the locking stud hole on am AR magazine, such that the magazine for the bolt gun will not lock into an AR, and an AR mag will not lock into the bolt gun. Since the only thing that is changed is the locking stud hole, the cost should be minimized.

Then if some lucky third party came out with an aftermarket bolt latch for an AR that would allow the evil black rifles to lock and use the bolt action magazines, then, well, that is no fault of the manufacturer.

If only Norinco wod make a Mauser that would take AIA type magazines and flood our market with their rifles and plenty of spare 5, 10, and 20 round magazines!

Better is if the TAC 21 frame for the Rem 700 was set to use an M14 "like" mag, then they could make 10 rounders, and I would be able to use the same mags in 3 rifles. But they decided to make their own mags for some reason. Damned expensive too, $100 for their mags compared to Marstar M14 5/20s for $35.

I have an AIA mag still that I modded with a hole like the real mags before I knew the laws. (It was very early on in the debate, and an M14 and an AIA were my first rifles) :( Live and learn I guess, I disassembled it as soon as I knew so the gestapo wouldn't kick my door in, as I immediately became a felon of the lowest order.
If I get this hole filled in somehow would it be back to a legal mag?

ORRR...since it works without the modification does it even matter?
