AIA mags in M14?

I have an AIA mag still that I modded with a hole like the real mags before I knew the laws. (It was very early on in the debate, and an M14 and an AIA were my first rifles) :( Live and learn I guess, I disassembled it as soon as I knew so the gestapo wouldn't kick my door in, as I immediately became a felon of the lowest order.
If I get this hole filled in somehow would it be back to a legal mag?

ORRR...since it works without the modification does it even matter?

Nope, since you modded it, you essentially re-designed it fit a semi automatic rifle, thereby reducing it's capacity to 5. Good thing you dismantled it. Not worth 3 years in jail if your caught with it.

Stupid laws.

What if the hole gets filled with weld? I was just fixing a rust hole, like in a car, after all.

I'd argue that case, but realize that the officer who catches you will have discretion to charge you in the first place. Defending a criminal charge won't be cheap, even if the judge is perfectly reasonable. Some countries reimburse people for costs involved when they are charged erroneously -but not ours.

This is the problem, You could argue you repaired a defective mag, but you will have to prove your innocence.

I know how you feel. I bought my AIA mag on the the EE, and I don't have an official receipt. I'm afraid of an officer doing his due diligence and arresting me for having a prohibited device.

How would disassembly help you avoid the gestapo? People who imported disassembled 30 round mags were still charged with importation and possession of prohibited devices. If anything it makes thing worst since the prosecution could argue that you intended to hide the prohibited device by disassembling it.

If I were you I would destroy the mag body immediately and keep the springs and the follower.

Weld up that hole, and finish it up all pretty like, so nobody can tell...

Or drop it in a deep lake (keep the spring, baseplate and follower). NOT WORTH THREE YEARS IN JAIL.

You don't have to throw it out. If you decide to keep it, put a rivet in there at the 5 round mark, and you still have a good magazine.
