AICS bottom metal for Savage 10TR with bottom bolt release, is this possible?

An update, of sorts...

Still haven't had a chance to play tin basher - maybe once the weather goes to pot. I have been searching on and off for a distributor/gunsmith/gun store that can get that Savage sear (part #103871). Western Gun Parts had them for a short time; but apparently it takes 6+ months to get parts from Savage... Anyway, latest news from another gunsmith is that, according to Savage, the part has either been discontinued or is no longer available for sale (most likely the latter).

SO, once again, if you want to convert your bottom bolt release Savage to a top bolt release; you'll have to play gunsmith/tin basher. Or, maybe you can get the part... somewhere?

I had this issue a couple of years back (bolt release was actually busted IIRC) and went as far as taking my rifle to a gunsmith who still couldn't get it from Savage Canada (Stoeger IIRC?) even though he was going to do the work. In the end I said #### it and bought an MDT chassis. I had also previously tried a PTG bottom metal which was the correct spacing to fit the 10TR, but it would have required a LOT of fitting to make it work. Bighorn can get the PTG stuff if you want to try that route. Lot's of screwing around for zero benefit beyond cost. The MDT chassis was excellent and worth every penny.

Not needed. If you use a DBM that isn't made for the bottom bolt release, or a chassis, you just reach up in the trigger hole and actuate the bolt release - I use an allen key.

Savage makes a 10 rnd mag for those guns I have 2 SAVAGE 55185 MAGAZINE 308-WIN/6.5-CRE SHORT MATTE BLUED 10-SHOT Product Code: 55185 they are not as nice as the ACIS but work

Yep, have two - not actually a 10 round magazine though, a glorified 9 round magazine in reality.

As for chassis, not everyone wants to go that route - but it is an option. Doesn't change the fact that you end up having to "work around" the bottom bolt release with slots in the chassis to actuate the release... It does get you to having AICS magazines; though.

Aftermarket DBMs are rather hit and miss, and no one wants to nail down their dimensioning to anything more descriptive than 4.4" - whereas you can have a bit more than that on the 10T-SR; will the DBM work? Maybe...?

The OEM Accu-Stock is garbage anyway and a pain to bed properly. I went the chassis route with my 10TR. Its sitting in an MDT ESS now. As mentioned you access the bolt release through a slot in the side of the chassis above the trigger, but I find this to be an acceptable compromise. Others may disagree.

The Oryx chassis (made by MDT) looks like a viable "cheaper" option as well. MDT also have their new XRS that looks a little more like a traditional stock.
