Old pics, few mods done since then.

A Rem action in an AICS stock is nowhwere remotely close to a real AI, whether it be an AW or AE.

If you have alot of money then go ahead and get AW or AE, the rest of us do work for a living, but you can make Rem700 shoot very Accurate as good or Almost comparing to AI.

I am not just talking about accuracy, I am talking about the whole package. An AW for example, short bolt throw, adjustable two stage trigger, bonded action, the ability to change barrels in the field, different magazine than the AICS mags... the rifle was built as a specific purpose built wpn from the ground up much like the TRG. Alot different than putting a Rem action into a AI stock. Like I said it make look similar but not remotely close.

John, thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions in such detail. That's more than anyone should have to do honestly. And seriously, $150 difference is enough for people to worry about? on a $1200 stock that is in high demand? wow.

Anytime you want to send me $150 more for a stock I will send you my email address..My point is that a dealer has to order a stock,,get it in 3 days..charge $150 more than retail, plus 10-15% dealer discount on $1000 stock is another $100/$150..so $300 to make a phone call? wow

AICS- greatest stock so far.

I have an AICS on a remington 700 XCR long range tactical in a 300 win mag. od green. No pics yet but once my camera is fixed i will have lots of pics for all of you to judge. Great feel to it. A little heavy but nothing I can't handle. Even in the bush my dad says it is to heavy but I counldn't give 2 sh?ts about weight.

Agree, YOU get what you pay for, If I had alittle more money I would go with AI also, Even Sako TRG is alot nicer than REM700, but Rem700 do work.

Yes they do, you will not get an argument from me there, I was merely stating the differences.:)

On a rifle build of $4000, and I'm going on the cheap side here I think with action, stock, rings, base and scope, $150 is chump change. I don't see it being out of line on a $1000 stock. But then again I hate AI stocks, and much prefer my TRG22 stock.

Thanks Otokiak, because of you I ordered a stock and will leave any house upgrades until next year. Thank you.

Well then Bob I guess you better post pictures when you receive that stock eh ... ;) :p

p.s. stock is only the start ... next is re-barrel, trigger work, paint ... :p

I notice on some AICS stocks the adjustable cheekpiece has the larger screws that can be turned with fingers, similar to the ones on a McMillan saddle type cheekpiece. I don't think they are standard and it appears the ones that come with the stock need an allen wrench. Is that correct for those who have an AICS and does one know where the larger cheekpiece screws to fit the AICS can be obtained?

EC, you are correct ... I too would like to know where to obtain a set of the larger finger screws for the cheekpiece?

I know a guy that do just that, just replace the Allen wrench screw with two of these and you set.

Wolverine's look like Ts, similar to these:

Only $8.50 a pair.

If anyone can verify the thread on the screws there are other options out there. Someone on Snipershide was selling flat round knob screws.

You likely saw them on the chassis stocks we made for the Savage rifles on which we used the AICS skins as AI does to cover the chassis.
AI does not offer the thumb screws, that was something we did.

Hey Rick just taking a stab at it here but do you know if the screws for the McMillan Saddle Type cheekpiece will fit, they appear to be similar however obviously the threads may be dirrerent. There is a picture of a AICS on page 14 of this thread where a guy had painted his stock. It is a Rem action with the thumb screws, so they are available, somewhere.
