Hello fells, i am using an aimoint cloe sold by 1337 tactical on my AR, and it is just too bright for night use.
Is there a way to reduce the level of the little red light ?
It is so bright when at the lowest level, that it shines all over inside the main tube. Not usable for dark situations. good for day, but bad at night.
Any tech guys over here ???
(yes, my setup is at the minimum !!!)

It is on forward, well, i guess...
It has only 5 levels of brightness.
The real ones should have more, i just can see the marines with a blinding dot on the streets of Baghdad when the partol at night !

This is the problem with all the clones, including the Eotech clones, the brightness is too powerful at night.

There is surely a way of reducing the power of these little LED lights.

I hope so !!!!

Try just geting some colored celophane and cutting it out to the size of the lens... that would probably fix it but also 'tint' everything as well

RDSs arent that great for night use unless they use a IR filter for NV use (?)

If it employs 2 1.5v cells for power it "may" have a reduced output if you remove one battery cell and supplement the space left with a piece of tin foil carefully folded .. and inserted so as not to short out .... I do not know if this will work on LED as I have never actually tried a reduced voltage... it works on incandescent bulbs...I presume that the current circuit employs some sort of rheostat to control illumination levels via controlling the voltage ... it "seems" to follow that you may be able to reduce your lamp level by removing a cell...course lots of reasons why this may not work - circuit may shut down completely when it doesn't see the 3v it wants (or some threshold eg 2.4v etc )..

Incidentally the "shines all over the inside tube" is why more expensive units have expensive to apply multi-coating of the internal lens surfaces to prevent light from reflecting internally ... also the tube is treated internally with matte black or black "felt" to prevent reflection and the resultant flare.

ALSO .. as you observed ... the light screws up your night vision.. the iris dilates to let lots of lights into your "cones and rods" ...but when it is exposed to the illumination from the "dot" ... the iris starts to contract...annoying ... and one good reason why the large Euro picket reticles are better for most hunters than fancy/expensive illuminated reticles for most hunters...

at real low light levels NVD scopes are probably best but most seem to have piss poor depth of field

I was going to buy one of these, wonder if they're all like this or it hit or miss; I'm now trying to decide between 3, russian kobra, holosight, or burris speed dot.

try shooting with both eyes open,or go for the more expensive clone..not the $30 NC Star

I just picked up a Burris XTS speed dot from the EE. It's not an Aimpoint, but seems pretty decent. I liked it slightly better than the similar Tasco I checked out at LeBaron's. Some guys on ARF were going on about how it's too bright and the dot was too big, but doing an A-B comparison between it and my CompM2, the dots are very similar, and while it doesn't go down as low as the Aimpoint, it works just fine inside a dark house, which is about all I wanted it for. Beware the Holosight/Eotech if you have astigmatism in your eyes. I really like the Eotech I had, but just found it was too fuzzy. Aimpoint is much better for this, at least with my eyes.
