Hey Guys,

Anyone have any opinions on the Aimpoint CompM3 (2MOA) versus the EOTech 552 units?

I am looking for some optics for an AR180B-2 but don't have any experience with either.

Reliabilty, ease of use, bulk, weight, effectiveness with NVD units, etc.

Any user input would be great.

How far are you shooting? If you are using it for longer range stuff, ie 75 yards and beyond the EoTech gets a little busy for me and I prefer the AimPoint. Since you mention the ML3 I'd look at the 2MOA model which is very crisp and on full brightness the dot gets closer to 4MOA.

If you are using it for closer range stuff under 100 yards or want to use it for CQB Competitions and such I'd go with the EoTech as the 65MOA ring makes it very quick for target acquisition.

This all being said, I wish L3 made a EoTech with different reticles, or atleast just a dot. I like the 308BDC reticle however. Less clutter. I do prefer looking through the window on the EoTech as opposed to a tube. Wider FOV FTW.

I got to try the Eotech on a fellow CGN'er's rifle a month ago. I liked it and I'm thinking of getting one for the reasons stated above. See if someone your area would be willing to let you peek through theirs.

I have run both extensively...I prefer the Eotech. However both my ARs sport Aimpoints, the mounts are stronger, the Aimpoints are way tougher. I simply don't have access to a supply chain like a professional user. The whole fast shooting thing is simply a training issue...I have run the Aimpoint without even turning it on and simply using the tube as a huge ghost ring and still made good hits. Either way you are going to have to invest the time and money in both to be sure of your decision, deciding by committee here won't really help.

regarding FOV, is that even an issue with RDS? i shoot with both eyes open and hardly find my vision impared by my aimpoint, but i've yet to use an eotech to be able to make a fair comparison.
