So my Aimpoint arrived today thanks to the good folks at Questar.
It's perfect on my 7" AR...
I've tried a bunch of optics on this particular gun.
Originally a Bushnell Holosight (which in retrospect was pretty good but the battery life was short) and it needed a riser.
Then a few M3 and M4 clones, an XPS-3 clone (all too big) and finally an micro clone.
But after having a chance to field these "optics" to see which ergos worked for me of all of these I decided on the Aimpoint for this particular red dot... I think for the most part it is a pretty good setup.
But before I show the final product I thought I'd post a few Replica vs Real pics so you can see the physical differences and give a run down of the two.
The real one is on the right:
The real one is on the BOTTOM:
As you can see from the pics they are pretty close, hopefully no one gets duped into buying a fake.
Having both in hand I can state that the major differences, apart from the quality of the body and optics...
The real Aimpoint dial rotates from 0 to 12 and does not go around. (ie stops at 0 or 12) This replica aimpoint only went to 11.
The real Aimpoint numbers are are marked parallel to the dial not perpendicular.
Positions 1 to 4 are for NV, 5 to 12 are red dot and 12 is BRIGHT.
There are rubber gaskets on the windage and elevation covers and there is absolutely no grittyness in either direction when adjusting... just a positive click. (wouldn't have expected anything else)
The internal diode that emits the light is at 6 o'clock for the replica and 4-5 o'clock for the aimpoint
Anyway here are the pics of the Micro mounted:
