I just ordered a Mauser 96 9.3x57 fromTradex with weaver bases. The bolt is turned down, but original, which means I either alter the bolt, use very high scope rings, or use an Aimpoint.Since the 9.3x57 is considered a 200 yard rifle anyway-the Aimpoint seems to be a viable option.Has anyone else opted for an aimpoint for this rifle-and if so-what brand or model Aimpoint did you use,and what has your experiance been in hunting situations?

I have very much the same question, since I'm thinking of putting something on my Tradeex purchased 9.3x62. It's got some funny mounts (the rear ones looking a bit off, which is really unfortunate considering that it is an otherwise excellent rifle) and a turned down bolt, but uses the regular M96 safety which might require a scope to be mounted high. I'd like to buy regular weaver mounts and try something like an aimpoint or similar red-dot scope.

So once again, has anyone tried mounting an aimpoint or similar optic on their Swede rifles with any success?

Regards,

Frank

I have a M38 and event though the bolt is turned down, I still have to use xtra high rings. I have a Farrell base on it.
I scoped it at first, but the balance of the rifle was not to my liking, so I took the scope off and I put a Bushnell trophy red dot. The ease of aiming is astonishing and I imagine that an Aimpoint would only be better. I mounted it forward of the bolt handle, and it works well.

Eltorro......Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Red Dot.

I think that I'll be seriously considering this option. I have a 4x40 Bushnell Scopechief VI that I'll be putting on my 9.3x57, which came with a rubber cheekpiece to provide the proper weld with a higher sitting scope. I think that I'll use that option for early mornings and evenings from a stand position, while trying a low magification scope/red dot on the 9.3x62.

Frank
