Aimpoint placement on rifle?

I'm going to try out an Airmpoint in place of my EOTech and I'm finding that the Aimpoint "blocks" my view when it's up as close as my EOTech. I moved it about 8" further forward than I usually mount my EOTech and it seems better and doesn't clutter my 'view' so much with both eyes open.
I haven't shot my rifle with the Aimpoint mounted yet, so would like to hear from Aimpoint users as to what you find is the best position for the Aimpoint on a rifle...up close or further away. I will be using it in Tac Rifle matches.

Recently purchased an Aimpoint CompC3 2X which I will mount forward of the action on a bolt rifle. I believe that this will work out OK because the Aimpoint has unlimited eye relief and is parallax free ( dot need only be in the field of view, not necessarily centered).
I have found that forward mounted telescopic sights tend to cause problems due to parallax.
I think it will perform just fine for you and me.

my Aimpoint is situated in a cantilever mount at the front of my rail - the more forward the better (relative to my 552 which I had mounted slightly farther back).

I also mount my Aimpoint on a ARMS cantilever mount right at the front og the reciever rail.

Works great there and co-witnesses my iron sights.

I'm used to my EOTech being just in front of the rear sight on my AR, but the Aimpoint (replica... ) just seems to be "in the way" in the same position, with thicker body parts around the lens. Moving it closer to the forward end of the FF tube looks goofy (imo), but it seems easier to use and less "in the way".

thats the general trend in red dot and holographic optics. When I had my flat top AR, I mounted it as far forward as it would go.

I have mine on a cantilever mount just about where the slip-ring/D-ring is.

I have my Aimpoint COMP ML2 placed at the reciever-end of my Knights Armament M5 RAS. I use an Aimpoint QRP mount.

i mounted mine as far foreward as i could. make the 4moa dot smaller. father away make the dot more of a spec, the way i like it anyways.

My "Aimpoint" is a replica....if I decide to go with an Aimpoint over my EOTech, I'll buy the real thing. I picked up a new EOTech 551 from Dave's Surplus for my AR ...the "Aimpoint" is on my Tactical Interdiction Tupperware Storm. (T.I.T.S. for short) Looks SO cute.
