AIMPOINT VS EOtech

I prefer the EoTech. I own both, however I think the aimpoint is overbuilt for what it's intended to do. There are simpler, lighter and more efficiently designed red dot sights (probably none as rugged or long lasting though). The strength of the EoTech is in its use with NVG for me.

How can the Aimpoint be overbuilt for what it's intended to do? It's intended to work 100% of the time, in combat, as a Close Combat Optic. There can't be any compromises on reliability in construction or design. This is the reason Aimpoint wins military trials when pitted against the competition.

What advantage does the Eotech have in the NV arena over the Aimpoint? All Aimpoint military optics have multiple NVG settings.

I love my aimpoint, its not a comp m4 though. I also shot a friends EOTech and it was pretty decent as well.

Also gotta consider the cost of a mount, Eotech = 0, Aimpoint = anywhere from $75-$300

EDIT: actually, I think the m4 is the one that comes with the mount, so disregard my last.

With the money you'll spend on batteries for the Eotech you could have bought an Aimpoint. :p

I have 6 or 7 Aimpoints - none of them ever quit.
I have 1 Eotech - It quit and had to be replaced.

I have heard of similar reliability issues on other forums and from troopies-

I love the tiny Eotech dot, its nice for long range work but not worth the reliability and battery life issues.

I was gonna say... some dont need a mount bc they come with.

But yes some aimpoints need a mount for them. But take an aimpoint and bounce it off a concrete floor. It will still work.

Aimpoin used to have on display a case that an aimpoint was in. It had a m16 (i believe) and an aimpoint inside this case. It was hit with an RPG. Case was mangled. Aimpoint exterior metal was bent and had a piece of the metal rolled up the side. But the fact is that it still worked.

Bomb proof sights is where its at. Plus battery life you cant beat.

I have one of each and there are pros and cons...

Eotech over Aimpoint:

AA's vs CR123's - price and availability
lower profile
cleaner reticle

Aimpoint over Eotech:

Battery life
simplicity

really I think it comes down to individual preference - play with both and decide, don't take the word of anyone who can't provide hard statistics...

I'm happy and will be keeping both optics
