Just purchased a Diana air rifle , 1000 FPS and looking to put a scope on. I had an old 22 rimfire scope on my old air rifle ( Under 500 FPS ) and had no issues. After researching same it appears most folks recommend an scope specifically designed for an air rifle recoil .

I have been looking at a Hawke Sport HD 3-9 x 40 Mildot IR or an RWS 3-9 x 44 night Pro .

Any comments would be appreciated

I have read that the recoil of the spring releasing in an air rifle, especially 1000 fps plus wreaks havock on regular rifle scopes, hence the need for a scope specially designed for an air rifle.

Good air rifle specific scopes are out there. I got mine from Midway for around 100 bucks and it's variable power to 12X.

Hope this helps.

an airgun will destroy scopes that can take .375 H+H do to recoil moving forward not to the rear as in powder burners.Hawke is a good brand.I'd also reccomend the UTG one piece mt from Leaper's for all RWS/Diana guns as factory ones are junk as are RWS scopes..........they take Weaver rings..........D+L airgun in BC carries the mt...........Harold

The problem with springer guns is two way recoil. Most rifle optics the lenses are secured specifically for rearward recoil only and not the secondary reverse recoil springers caise which is why air rifles tear them up. Any of the optics you mentioned will be fine. I'd go with the rws. Leapers makes a pretty good air rifle optic also. I am using an old tasco and so far it's held up

My Diana has destroyed 2 scopes (air rifle scopes) 1 Tasco and the other a Bushy. The Bushy was on a couple of non-PAL air guns and worked fine but after it went on the Diana it lasted about 200-250 rounds. Next time around I'd rather spend a few more $ and get something that'll last, the failures are a real pain.

Leupold makes an air rifle scope that may be the way to go with their awesome warranty and service

According to their website the scopes have the gold ring lifetime warranty. www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/air-rifle-scopes. Now for Canada I believe after 2007 (?) your scope has to come from a Canadian wholesaler to have the warranty in Canada.

I have a cheap Bushnell 3-8x Scopechief 22 on my Feinwerkbau Sport 17 (~750ft/s spring piston) that holds zero just fine.

On my Diana model 36 and 48, I put on a RWS one-piece scope mount and a Leapers 3-9x40 and 3-9x50. So far, no problems after 5 yrs and provide enough magnification for shots up to 50 yds. I find Leapers to be decent quality for the price.(<$100)

Hawke Scopes

Check out the Hawke Optics website. Great selection and reputation. They carry lifetime warrannty and are a great company to deal with.

I was trying to correct for some barrel droop on a Weihrauch rifle and not realizing it went too far with the vertical adjustment. Obviously scope wasn't holding zero any more.Telephoned company, spoke to theirtech person and mailed off scope. Received a detailed reply on what the problem was with the scope and they mailed me back a brand new scope in the box no questions asked !

I have since purchased another scope from them with IR. I called them up and purchased it directly from them as they are licensed and able to ship to Canadian customers. No middle man. How good is that ?

ps. I did not have to pay any duty with my last purchase- must of got lucky !
