I have a replica of a Walter P38 hand gun that is actually an Air pistol. Do I need to use any precautions as per any regulations to drive out into the country side and shoot some tin cans. I mean when it comes to transporting it, do I have to treat it as a firearm ??

Well make sure it has the markings that it's a air pistol on it. And expect that if someone sees you, you might get harassed.

A lot of criminals use air pistols in crimes so just be cautious on who's around and treat it as a real firearm. IE don't leave it on the seat in plan view, use a case to take it from your vehicle etc to were you want to go etc etc.

Legally, if it is under 500fps, then you have to take the exact same precautions as you would for transporting a clay brick.

Pragmatically, you should put it in some kind of case or container or bag, and/or put a trigger lock on it.

It's kinda like right of way at a cross walk. It's awful hard to claim you were in the right when you're pinned to the ground.
