is it truth that spring powered air rifles need to have air rifle scopes designed for recoil in both directions? I have heard that statement before and wondered if there was any truth in this? I purchased a 1000fps winchester spring rifle a while back. I was given a tacso 3-9 x40 scope from a friend. I mounted it and it seemed to shoot fairly well. The origional rifled sights were not particularily great, so i opted for the scope. After a short time its seems as though its point of aim shifts. The rings are tight, scope mounting screws are tight. So this has me wondering if its possible that the scope cannot take the recoil from the spring?? I know it sounds goofy but i expect more out of it. As a kid an old 495fps spring rifle shot way more accuately that this 5 fold. Sometimes you can shoot a dime sized target at about 25 yards. The next you might be lucky to hit a pop can??Any iders?

I've got the cheapest of cheap scopes on a couple air rifles and I've never noticed a change in its zero, so to speak. That said, I don't use the dovetail mounts and instead tapped the rifle to accecpt a proper scope base.

Maybe you just have a bad scope.

Air guns with springs are hard on scopes. They need to be rated for airguns or they will often be shaken to death. Idealy you also have a scope that has adustable parallax starting at 10M or so. I seem to recall that all Bushnells are rated for air-guns but I don't know about the Tascos. This site http://www.opticsplanet.net/riflescopes.html had good information if I recall correctly.

Put on a Leaper's available from D+L airgun in BC.They start at $50 and go up from there.Tasco isn't worth taking out of the box...............JMO...........Harold Simmon's comes out of the same factory I believe?

thanks i'll check it out.

i agree that the tasco isn't worth anything. That was a freebee and i figured on a pellet gun i would give it a try. I have a leapers on a 22. They are ok. I have a couple of older bushnells kickin around ,perhaps i will try one of those. I was really more interested in whether the spring rifles needed a certain type of scope. I will check out the prevoius link for some info on it. Thanks for the replys

With a Leaper's 3x9x40 IR mil-dot its in the same hole from my HW80K/.22 full powered of course.....................Harold

Spring powered air rifles do have double recoil and do require air-rifle rated scopes. Leapers are definately a good choice. Check out this web site. It explains almost every important aspect of air rifle mechanics and behaviour. www.arld1.com

I have a Diana 34 .177 air rifle and have mounted a Leupold RF 4x on it. It shoots incredible groups with the good pellets. No scope issues after several thousand rounds. Eagleye.

I use mostly Bushnells on my air rifles...usually the Banner model with AO or IR. And they're guaranteed for life even if you sell the scope to another owner. I've had one break on my and sent it in for repairs....they send me a new one. Only problem is it takes about 7 weeks.

Tascos don't hold up well with "1000"fps air rifles...unless you get a very high end model...but not sure about that.
