Say someone finds an air rifle that's been sitting forgotten in their attic since the 70's, one that may be powerful enough to be considered a firearm. Its been there so long that its never been registered. They have never had a FAC or PAL so cant register it under the amnesty.

What can they do with it?

Can they give it to me once my PAL arrives? If so can I just register it?

Or do they have to hand it into the cops and potentially be charged with a firearms offense?

I'd say someone is just better off putting it back in the attic and forgetting about it until you get your pal.

Yup, you can register it with no problems. Done it myself with higher powered firearms than an air rifle. Made me nervous at first when I contacted the firearms center, but everyone was decent to me and walked me through the process.

But yes, you need your PAL first. The form you get asks the circumstances in which you obtained the firearm. Just explain it the same way you described on this thread.
