Wondering what people are using for air mattresses for hunting fishing.
My goals are lightweight, 25 inch wide, min 1.5 inch thick with a good r-value
As getting older finding the one skinny thinner one isn’t working as good
 
I haven't bought one yet but I've been looking to get a new air mattress and I have decided on the Klymit static V series. They've got a wide selection depending on how light vs insulation vs cost you want, I'm planning on getting the Lite (second link). 20oz (vs 24oz for the non-lite version). Atmosphere Sports has them on sale pretty frequently.

Looking online just now it looks like their R values might be misleading though. Gonna have to dig into this more.

Thermarest all the way, neo air extreme, I’ve had a lot of different ones over the years and they seem to be the best and are made in the USA !!

I've had a Big Agnes Insulated Air Core for almost 15 years and it's been fantastic, no leaks, no holes, stays very warm for an air pad and folds up small.

I have read some less than stellar reviews on the newer models, but i've never used the new ones myself.
 
Iv used a few over the years, Iv come to find the lengthwise baffles much more comfortable then the horizontal baffles. Iv been on Exped’s now for 4-5 years and really like them. The outer baffles are a tad larger, which helps keep me on my pad, a big bonus.

I’m not a big guy and went with a wide model, highly recommend for a little added weight.
 
MEC vect air insultated lt.

R value of 5 (I feel like this is an underestimate; I’ve been comfortable at -30 on frozen muskeg) way more comfortable than its weight and thickness suggest. Very light for a 4 season pad ~580 grams.

I am pretty long and wide and I fit a regular one, it’s supposedly 2 and a bit inches shorter than me but I haven’t noticed. I also sleep on my side and find it comfortable. The way the indentations are arranged prevent rolling off and make it so there are no thin points to poke through.

The thermarest is slightly lighter and has a better r value but is much more expensive. Both have a pump sack that doubles as the storage sack; very important if you are camping in extreme cold to avoid condensation freezing in your pad.

Those exped downmat hyperlites look great on paper, would love to try one.

If you aren’t travelling far the mec reactor is also good, very comfy; I have the double one and it sleeps two comfortably and fits in a 6’6 truck box perfectly.

Was not impressed with the big agnes. You are sacrificing r value for 200 grams of weight; nothing comes for free. You will feel it if temps drop. Stuff advertised as 3 season is often “2 season” in reality. Sleeping on a 4 season pad in all weather is no disadvantage; it’s not like a 4 season tent which is really more of “1 season” (winter) thing.

Also wouldn’t buy a 100 dollar pad off the suggestion of someone who hasn’t tried it. If you camp 7 nights a year it could last you your entire hunting career if well made and cared for; spend twice that and get something reputable.

Agreed. Definitely get the wide. I have the downmat winterlite and like it a lot. They pop up on thelasthunt every once in a while.

i run a LW 9............... 9 CM thick :)
there is EXPED 7s........ 7 cm....

R Rating for -25 Deg maybe better? I absolutley love sleeping on mine so much so, its difficult getting off it the following morning.
Edit to say i also went an got myself a Klymit 3 season pad, its super Thin , packable but is not comfortable .
 
Between me and my wife we had 1/2 a dozen of exped, from the first generation to about 4-5 years ago when we just gave up, always had problems with them, slow leak, delamination etc and even with good warranty, it sucks when they stop working on day 3 of a 10-15 day trip…. So back with thermarest and ne et ever had a flat since!

thats a bummer! in wet areas i know there is issues when the mats been wet for a while and it gets OVER inflated...i think the guys that were trying to make a point, really over inflated theirs, if kept on the lesser side of taught, i dont see it delaminating , an the slow leak is or should be fixed with the glue an a stream?

i had frayed edges an leaked, so i pulled / opened it up about 2-3 cm and re Glued the seam... good as

Agreed. I’ll never purchase another Exped. Their CS/warranty is a joke.

Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm XL is my favorite pad. Warm and comfortable. Worth the ounce or two weight penalty over some of the lighter NeoAirs.
 
Do you blow them up with your breath? Might be condensation freezing

Probably not if you don’t have issues with other pads but something to think about

I had the Downmat with integrated pump. Never saw a breath. Then one morning, all the baffles just delaminated and it blew up into a big sausage. Buddies have had that problem and others that DGY mentioned.

Strange, Iv heard nothing but good about expeds warranty. My first pad made 6 years, replaced no questions asked other then a photo of the blown baffle. It’s actually the longest Iv ever had a pad that didn’t pop or leak
