Airgun hunting with arrows

Ive been watching videos of the Umerex Airsaber .
I wonder if its legal to use that Airsaber for Big game hunting in Canada .
Its extremely accurate and has more than enough power to kill deer .

In SK you can't hunt game animals with air power or use blowguns.
> A large calibre air rifle, pneumatic
firearm or similar device that uses
compressed air, nitrogen, carbon
dioxide or any other gas;

is how they word it.

Thats what i thought but i watched a Video on youtube last night and they used a .50 Cal PCP with arrows .
They shot trophy deer in .........SK .
Place was called woodyrivertrophy hunts .

Woody River has a high fence game farm.
I don't personally know their operations, but the have a Game Farm License, and the comments on some YouTube videos refer to the high fence.

I called Ontario MNR and was sent a written reply by email. Airbows may only be used to hunt black bear and small game ( other than wild turkey, cormorants, and bull frog). Air bows are not considered archery or a gun in Ontario.

IDK, it's not worth my continued firearms ownership to try and shoot a deer with one. I think if they make the minimum energy requirements people should be allowed to hunt with air powered firearms.

So its legal to use on Black bear and other small game , well there's a start . These air bows seem accurate and powerful . I may just buy one to try in my back yard just to see how they perform .

Black bear and small game is a silly rule, did they elaborate? Is Turkey small game?

As a stickbow shooter, I don't even consider X guns archery hunting, they have none of the characteristics of archery hunting, but the world does not seem to have come off it's axis, and I don't anticipate a huge increase in the number of hunters, not sure what the stats say.

So I am not in favour of airbows in the archery season, one novel reason in this case is that they are somewhat noisy, not sure if it is enough to mater.

That said, I actually think, while PCPs are a high hurdle for a lot of shooters to get over, this is one of the potentially best harvesting tools to come along. At one point my daughter was interested in coming hunting, and I felt that xbows were not terrible dangerous, but the energy does run over top of your supporting hand, and things like shotguns damage hearing. Arrows are extremely efficient, and less painful on game, and less damaging to meat than most alternatives, so I would like to see this tool get into the field for those that want it. I think it would be great for turkey, and big game in general.

On problem is that I don't think the co2 guns are ideal, and keeping it to PCP will be criticized as "elitest".

Since there are some that shoot at over 500 fps, it would seem they are guns, not sure if that forces the MNR hand. It would be ideal if ones that shot under 500 fps remained non-firearms. It is more likely they will push all airguns into the firearm column. It would make more grabber sense if the government took a look at moving some people out of firearms, in their policy, if that is what they want.

I have never shot an arrow at 1000 fps, I would have thought it was bad for the arrows.

If I look at a high end PCP, I would want to check and see if it had an arrow barrel available. No point in getting shut out.
