I have an AA TX200 .177 cal, at 50 yards any squirrel or rat is dead, as long as I have a steady rest. At 30 yards it's not even a challenge.

Pancake, double your budget and keep an eye our for a nice used Diana 34 in .22. Sufficient energy for most air gun critters, smooth shooting, and good accuracy, not too heavy either.
