Forgive me if this has been discussed and beaten to death. Neighbour suggested I buy a couple good CO2 BB gun replicas before they get banned. Is this nonsense? Kind of makes sense since kids don't need a license for them and they can look pretty real.

If that's the case, any recommendations on what's good or steer clear from?

It's true. Take a look at Cabelas. There doesn't seem to be much left.

Basic C21 is gonna kill the whole Sub 500 fps airgun class. As alot are detuned over 500 fps, so it would be considered a replica. Its liberals trying to prevent criminal from using them to commit crimes, has nothing to do with kids.

It's not talked too much, as the airgun forum ( CAF ) been silencing discussion, as there are mods that don't care too much about the replica looking BB guns.

From the updated RCMP website:

Air guns that are replica firearms.

These are air guns not powerful enough to cause serious injury or death, but designed to resemble a real firearm with near precision. Replica firearms, except for replicas of antique firearms, are classified as prohibited devices.

In particular, some air guns commonly known as air soft guns may fall into this category. These are devices that have a low muzzle velocity and muzzle energy, and that usually discharge projectiles made out of a substance such as plastic or wax rather than metal.

An airsoft gun, firing a .20g 6mm plastic pellet with a muzzle velocity below 111.6 m/s (366 fps), and resembling with near precision an existing make and model of a firearm, other than an antique firearm, is a replica firearm and therefore a prohibited device.

Although replica firearms are prohibited, individuals may keep those they owned on December 1, 1998. You don't need a licence to possess them, and they do not need to be registered. However, you cannot import or acquire a replica firearm. If you take a replica firearm out of Canada, it will not be allowed back in.

What about something like a Weihrauch HW44. If you bought one or owned one before the ban could you still keep it.

I've been buying up and keeping a rather nice replica 4.5mm handgun collection for the past year.
Ever since I noticed how well and ultra realistic they've been producing them lately and also knowing they would likely go prohib in the near future. I've got over a dozen of the good ones.

I have an Umarex M&P40, and a real M&P 40, and they are virtually identical. You'd have to know what you were looking for to spot the minute differences. It's fun to shoot, too.

So lots of support to the idea but what are some good ones to try to pick up while available?
I like the idea of shooting bbs in the garage too!

The new version of the Umarex Glock Gen4 G17 is absolutely awesome.
The Gen5 19X is also nice.
Any of the all metal KWC 1911s or the 1911s made by SIG, Springfield or Swiss Arms are all must haves as well.

Sig M17, P226,P365
Revolver Legends Ace in the Hole
Gamo Bone Collector pistol
Daisy Winchester Model 11 pistol
Colt single action Peacemaker

I started out buying that type of stuff and then decided go for it and did the PALR just last year. @70+ years....funny what a bit of legislation can do to a persons thinking about their country.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ordered the G19X from Siwash - I assume it's Umarex brand. But then cancelled just now. I've made it 39 years without owning a BB pistol and can probably do without.. don't want my kids to get any funny ideas with Dad shooting pistols in the house LOL.

So I guess if anyone is looking for one of them - Call Siwash.

Had a similar thread going and this is a reply I got

The exact wording of the proposed new Bill C-21 which may/may not pass through the Parliament with regard to replica firearms is as follows (quote):

1 (1) The definition replica firearm in subsection 84(1) of the Criminal Code is replaced by the following: replica firearm means any device that is designed or intended to exactly resemble, or to resemble with near precision, a firearm that is designed or adapted to discharge a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second and at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules, and that itself is not a firearm, but does not include any such device that is designed or intended to exactly resemble, or to resemble with near precision, an antique firearm;

Certain firearms deemed to be prohibited devices (3.2)
For the purposes of sections 99 to 101, 103 to 107 and 117.03, a firearm is deemed to be a prohibited device
if (a) it is proved that the firearm is not designed or adapted to discharge a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or at
a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules; and (b) the firearm is designed or intended to exactly resemble, or to resemble with near precision, a firearm, other than an antique firearm, that is designed oradapted to discharge a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second and at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules.

I have tried to closely match each handgun I own or have ordered with its representative replica bb or pellet
Have the
Glock 17 blowback
Glock 19 non blowback
Crosman 357 pellet revolver x 2
Walther p38 pellet
Daisy 1911 bb
Colt 1911 bb blowback

Set up a 20 ft range in the basement crawl space, so if they are prohibited I will still be able to use them.

Nice thing about bb is they make less noise than my nail gun so you can shoot them at any remote property without attracting a lot of attention due to the boom factor.stay out of sight and should continue to be able to use them in this remote neck of the woods
