Hi there, i'm not sure if this should be here or maybe in Legalese.......
Anyway, i just finished a short trip to the Philippines, to attend my cousin's wedding.......
Anyway, while i was there, i hit up a selling market, and they had a tonne of little spring loaded, i think they are 'airsoft' (little plastic bb's?) guns, so i picked up a couple for my boys that had asked for airsofts for X-mas.
They were the coolest little things, modelled after a S&W990, with little red laser aimpoints(?) and they only cost a couple (3!!)bucks in CDN funds.....
At the X-ray in Manila on the way home, at security into the building, the X-rayer person asked me to open my bag, pulled them out, and told me that 'replica' guns were not allowed. I told him they were plastic, and are in my checked luggage, not carry on. He said, 'no replica guns in luggage'.
I didn't have time to argue, since my flight left in about an hour, it took over an hour to get into the damn terminal, so i said fine, and gave them up, and went on my way......(pulled off the red dot laser things thought, which might actually work on my little P22)
Any thoughts or opinions?
I know at the time, i just kept in my head, 'better safe than sorry' for the security of the airport and all, but afterward(at home), and checking everything i can on the internet, i'm a little pissed, these were in my CHECKED baggage, which i have no access to once i am checked in for the flight.......

But i can pick them up at the flea market here in Edmonton openly for like $25-30......
I don't think they are illegal in any way........

need some bull#### import permits and that such to bring them into canada.

thats the simple way of putting it. yes perfectly legal to have but no for just anybody to try and bring into the country.

Actually, Airsoft is a long story... there's a ton of us (Converted Airsofters) that used to and Still frequent the AirsoftCanada boards...

The correct answer is, that Airsoft while very Grey area in the law, is openly imported into Canada. The importers use a tight system with proper brokerage papers and smart international brokers. This, inconjunction with a local CFO that might happen to play/collect airsoft, or just not care.

The only thing that keeps Airsoft afloat legally right now is a small niche loop hole in Canadian Firearm law... while it prohibits airsoft and replica's even sighting the word "Airsoft" and the Airsoft brand "Tokyo Mauri" in the act, it states that a "replica" is indeed NOT a replica if it is capable of firing a projectile with enough force to create bodily harm / death...

IE, the reason you can still buy those crossman 1911 look alike .177 pellet pistols.

Your cheap, fleamarket springers cannot and by all meaning of the law are prohibited devices... my 450 fps Upgraded to the tits fully auto full metal rifle however... is quasi legit.

Go figure.

You hit the nail on the head Seth. Altough i still wouldn't want to be shot in the eye by any airsoft gun as it would still sting like crazy, even if it was a crappy softair one sold at CT. ps Seth you on the island anymore?
