I've been looking at Airsoft free float handguards for the JRC for a while now. There are a few that look pretty good, cheap, plentiful, and are solid enough for what I need it for. I finally decided to take a chance on one from Amazon. Here is the exact one that I ordered:
* no link to fake stuff and commerical website
I picked it up today from my box across the border...and since it's clearly an Airsoft item, there were no ITAR issues and the CBP agent had no problems letting me go and pick it up.
Here's what the JRC look like with the original handguard...too short.
Took off the factory handguard and fit the Airsoft barrel nut. The Airsoft barrel nut spins on freely for about 3/4 of the threads, and then tightens up a bit. Using the tool that comes with the handguard, I just convinced it to go the rest of the way down. It didn't really feel overly hard to do, and when it was snug, the barrel was held tighly onto the receiver. No shims needed. The Airsoft barrel nut was definitely a very lightweight material...unlike the factory barrel nut. I think it'll do the job though.
Spun the handguard onto the barrel nut, and the top rail lines up perfectly with the rail on the JRC receiver! Bonus! Tightened down the two allen bolts on the bottom of the handguard and it was on there solidly.
This rifle length Olympic Arms look-alike is a much better fit for the long barrel of the JRC.
About the only thing I can say is that the finish of the Airsoft handguard is different from the finish of the JRC. The handguard has more of a matte finish, and doesn't quite match the rest of the rifle. It's not bad though. Overall, I'm happy with it. Throwing this out there just in case there are others who have contemplated the same and didn't want to risk purchasing something that didn't fit their rifle. Cheers.
