alright, complete newbie to optics here,

I am looking for a red dot or some other optics for my .22LR, but i'm a bit reticent to paying 4 times the amount i paid for the gun...

I've seen a lot of "replica" red dots and holographic sights for airsoft guns, that sell for much more reasonnable prices.

Since i don't know anything about them, I was wondering, could I use one of those optics to mount and use on my .22lr rifle? In other words, do these replicas "function" (and if so, do they function well enough for a .22), or are they just there for looks for airsofters??

for example :

I've used several knock offs ... Aimpoints, Eotech .. Trijicon ACOGs ... they all worked well. The only problem I had with most, was the dots themselves, all were washed out in bright sunlight. The held zero well enough, but in the end I went to Vortex RDS and and now Scopes.

Vortex, Bushnell, Tasco all make RDS that would perform a lot better than airsoft knockoffs.

Just remember .. you get what you pay for.

I have a little $50 Tasco that works good even in the sunlight. I usually use the #7 setting for targets but it goes up to #11

For $50 it is a good little site. I think it is about 5-6 MOA so shooting tacks beyond 25 yards is a bit of a stretch.

The Tasco site says that this sight's parallax is set for 50yds.
So, what happens at 20 yards (my range's distance)?
Do you see two (2) dots?

Im just trying to warn you now that if you go ahead with said procedure your pen1s will fall off and you mancard will be revoced.Straight up.lol I kidd.

Just 1 dot. I don't really use it past 25 yards. I think it is likely designed to be more or less parallax free or at the very least not very noticeable by putting it at 50 yards instead of infinity or at some long range distance. After all; they market it for shotguns and .22 rimfire. I do not really know a lot about optics but it works well for what it is.

i use that same tasco on my hp9 shotgun, ive put 300 rounds through it at clays and it still hits them 9 out of 10 times. should be more than fine for a .22

Bushnell TRS 25 can be had for less than $100 despite the sponsors above pricing it at $160-$190!

I just ordered one a few weeks ago, and it is mounted on my 12 gauge. Should hold up just fine on your pea shooter. LOL

And they get stock every week from what I saw checking their site so don't be discouraged. I'm sure they sell alot of these at that price, and free shipping in the US.

I went ahead and took the plunge.
LeBaron (Ottawa) has them on special for Ca$ 35.
It's worth a try.
It's made for the weaver-type rail (which comes with the pre-drilled 22/45 Mark III.)
Will sight-it in (zero it) with my Bore-sight laser tonight at home and
try it out on the (20yds) range Sat a.m.

I've used a couple on some .22's when you want that more "tactical" look of an Eotech clone on your .22 AR. They are decent enough although some of the really cheap ones like was said before get washed out. The "good" Eotech clones are about $200 and don't get washed out but then you might as well just get a vortex if you don't care about having a certain "look".

That is a huge sight to put on a handgun.

The TRS25 would have been perfect though.;)

I have owned that tasco, and it held up on my CZ858 so you should have no issues, except for the size and weight. LOL

But for only $35 .................;)

I'll see what I can do with it.
(Or what it can do for me.)
