AK-47 Bakelite Mags?

Here is a pic of one of my Romanians on one of the deer I shot this last season in Wisconsin.

Well ... I didnt think that posting a pick would cause so much commotion on here. I posted a stock picture of a 7.62x39 AKM mag for reference. I am aware that 5.45x39 mags may appear similar. but there are "bakelite" mags made for the traditional 7.62x39 AK. Thanks for the PIX gunplumber

Although the 5.45x39 mags will "fit" in a a common Norinco 223 (model 84 type) rifle, it would require a new follower to function properly. I have Romanian mags in 5.45x39 that fit but would not accept a 556 round. (BTW I have a new type 74 FH on that rifle now .. looks way better ;)

Aside from the EE where else would you find a bakelite mag? gunshows? I dont get out enough i guess ... :) i have a Norinco 56 with partial Bakelite furniture that is screaming for a matching mag !!!

Speckfire.. Nice type 84s-3!!!

Wow this thread started to pick up.. Nice Ak's Gunplumber.. OMG you had to mention Keng's ....I had forgotten about him :)

I believe that Kengs still stocks Polytech 16" AK assemblies NIB !!!!

In any case it seems that AK furniture is hard to come by. I've never considered the AK-84's to be anything more than a commercial variant especially when they were for sale at century International in Montreal for $399CAD! So Ive managed to chop and mod them without feeling bad about it :) They are great shooters especially when 223 ammo was cheap .. but nothing beats a 7.62x39 AK rifle (even if its patterned after a Norinco 56) !!!

My Polytech and some mags. In the box in the rear right there are a few more red mags but I took this pic awhile back and not about to pull all these out again.

been looking for that furniture for years..I will get some someday..both my side folders came with the generic wood on them.and I hear you on pulling all the mags out..way too much like work

I'm sure you know Gunplumber that there is a difference in color with the Chinese Bakelite and the Soviet one, the latter being more reddish than the Chinese oringy.

Thanks gunplumberr ... I think I have one of those keng black plastic mags somewhere, it had the bolt hold open device if my memory serves me right :)
