Former Prohibited Weapons Order No 13 made any firearm of the design commonly known as the AK-47 rifle, and any variant or modified version of it prohibited, except for the Valmet Hunter, the Valmet Hunter Auto and the Valmet M78 rifles.

The Valmet rifles were apparently excluded because the federal government gave some to First Nations in Quebec and Labrador.

Which government created Prohibited Weapons Order No 13?

Is there any documented proof of the federal government gave First Nations Valmet rifles? When and which government? I can't find anything on the internet about this.

You could try an Access to Information Act request if it's really bugging you...

I've never seen anything official either. I vaguely remember reading on here a long time ago that it wasn't some large scale federal program. It was a condition of a treaty settlement. I don't think it involved a huge number of guns, they just didn't want the publicity of banning guns they had recently given a First Nation's tribe.

Thank you for the information.

I have subitted an Access to Information Act request for the FRT number and all information for the classification of the Valmet Hunter, Valmet Hunter Auto and the Valmet M78 rifles as non-restricted. I read in another thread that the FRT has some info about firearms being given to Metis.

I am not sure which institution would have been responsible for the procurement and transfer of the rifles. Wait and see what info I get.

I can get you the FRT.

Isn't there the risk of drawing too much attention to these by FOIA request? And why are the details so important to you? We all know the firearms act is a mess involving political correctness gone amuck.

We here may know it, but I suspect not one in ten thousand among the general public know it.

Interestingly, you should look at the pictures of the firearms carried by indigenous people during the OKA crisis...

I see no risk in drawing the public's attention to the abject hypocrisy with which every single Liberal government has demonstrated when talking about gun control.

Good points.

Not one in ten thousand among the general public even know that guns are legal in Canada! Part of the problem fighting to keep our guns is that people don't even know law abiding Canadian gun owners exist. When Trudeau spouts off about gun owners they assume he's talking about criminals...

As far as drawing attention to the Valmet, I agree. Pointing out the hypocrisy is worth more to this community than protecting the gun's value for a few owners who are taking advantage of the hypocrisy for financial gain.

The biggest problem of drawing the public attention to the Liberals hypocrisy is that it's staunchest supporters are of the same ilk. Hopefully there are enough fence sitters and those who just don't know to sway to a more knowledgeable way.

ah, the real reason there's a Firearms Act camouflaged by Ghamil Garbi and his hate for females.

Oh for sure, a lot of people know the real statistics and are still prepared to throw us under the bus for another 4 years in power so they can line their pockets. Definitely. But I don't think that's the average joe Liberal.
