AK 47 question

Short answer: Forget it. Or write a letter to your member of parliament.

The AK-47 is classed as prohibited. Only people who had a prohibited firearm before 1998 (correct me if I'm wrong) were given a license to keep it.
 
well only way right now is to start a business and get a business license then you can even buy guns with fun switchs (only ak's ive seen imported here now are select fire)

and not every AK is a AK 47 but they all are based off of it and a bit of history for you ak 47 stands for Автомат Калашникова модели 1947 года or in english avtomat kalashnikova model of 1947
 
If you want an AK in Canada your only bet is to find and pay through the nose for a Valmet. If you want that aggressive com bloc look there's always the CZ 858 and CSA carbine/compact but they are not AKs. No interchangeable parts but they are great guns and well worth the money
 
When you have a business license like that can you just take whatever to the range whenever you feel like it?

Are there obscure rules like must be for the purpose of the product demo etc?

Yes. The non-restricted AKs were either the original semi autos, or CAs with long enough barrels.
AK type rifles in Canada are either 12-2, 12-3 or 12-5 prohibs.
You could get quite a variety. Different makes, models.
I used to carry one - a folding stock AKM - in the box under the seat of my snowmobile. Wasn't particularly accurate, but it was compact, and I knew it would work if I needed it.

The business licences which authorize business ownership of prohibited longarms have very specific conditions for what can be done with the guns.

They were common and very many sold up until '92 when a pile of guns were banned. Owners of AK's and many other guns were ordered to register them. A few owners actually did that, and those guns are grandfathered, so can only be sold to other grandfathered owners. There aren't very many, and become less every year. It's just delayed confiscation.

So, legally speaking, you're out of luck.

was there not only like 4000 registered there still alot id guess or maybe they just fell off the boat

Hopefully we will see a time when they will be available again.

Slowly with time and technology change, AK47 will be obsolete and viewed as just a heavy clunking rifle that serves no purpose. With all the phazers and photone torpedoes around who need this junk?
Things change, as well as laws. I thought that NR gun registry will never be scrapped, but it was. When I was 5 years old, I thought i never get to shoot a handgun or real rifle except the air rifle. But now I do.

So let's support CSSA, NFA, NRA and all other pro gun organizations, and things will change.
