Slowly with time and technology change, AK47 will be obsolete and viewed as just a heavy clunking rifle that serves no purpose.
That won't happen soon.
I doubt that you can name another automatic (military) rifle that has same reliability (or at least close) and usability as AK 47. It might look "heavy clunking rifle" and "junk", but no other military rifle in the history came close to it and I don't see that some will come close, IMO.Slowly with time and technology change, AK47 will be obsolete and viewed as just a heavy clunking rifle that serves no purpose. With all the phazers and photone torpedoes around who need this junk?

^^ i think it comes down to how much more simple could the design get? the only thing i could see is get rid of the gas tube like the vz58.

I use a 60 year old Type 2 AK-47 at work every day, it has a steel milled receiver, chrome lined barrel and piston group. The trigger is better than my M-4's, the finish is worn off but shoots great. The new AK-12 looks real sweet, better control, ergonomics and updated but the insides are the same reliable designs... I dont know of many rifles that have survived 60 years of service in deplorable conditions like the AK-47.

Norinco has a version that you can still buy on Marstar, the 84-S. But getting parts for it is next to impossible, nobody has or can get parts. I 've been looking. They are prohib 12.5
You can buy a deactivated one if you like.

What parts of the ak are prohib? Or all? Lets say I know a guy that knows a guy that found some ak parts in a barn ie mags etc would he be able to keep or sell the parts? Just curious.
