Ak-47

The VZ-58 is superior at being 0.3 lbs lighter than an AKM, and feeding with stripper clips, that's about it.
 
It isn't about which rifle is better or worse.

I have a vz58. I want an AK47/74 carbine. They are not the same gun, and thus one won't replace the other.

If I could have both I would. Why? Because I like both.

The milled receiver isn't really an advantage, synthetic AK mags are even lighter and MUCH stronger than VZ mags, the AK platform has the advantage of at least 40 years worth of further development, including an array of different calibers and configurations, mass balanced versions and exotic derivatives like the ADS bullpup rifle.

The AK mechanism is more reliable and rugged, doesn't heat up as quickly and IMO even has better ergos, especially when running it with thick gloves on.

Bottom line I think the Czechs built a good rifle that was the best of its kind in the 1950s, but it's now a footnote for many reasons.

I can't believe anyone wouldn't want to have a toy like this that you can feed for peanuts.
Only HUGE issue I can see is what fun is full auto with a 5 round mag.
WAIT! WAIT! WAIT! The brainiacs in Ottawa will have our mags pinned at 1 round.
 
Bof!!!! If the AK was allowed to be sold tomorrow, the VZ-58 will be history. In the meanwhile all you VZ-58 owners Ak wannabe look alike console yourselves with the fact that the AK is prohib ;)

VZ is not better, it's just different. Every rifle has it's good and bad points. And yes I own a VZ-58
 
Nice thing about the Vz is you don't have to say durka durka when firing it. I'm a huge m78 fan and wish we could run the 71&76 up here. Looking at doing a 18.5" m/71W clone. Can not wait for this thing to be done.
