Heys guys just a quick question here. Are AK 74's considered prohibited here in Canada, and if not are they as cheap as they are in the States?

They are prohibited as AK47 variants.

That being said, there is one[/i] restricted only "AK74" in Canada. Is was built using a Valmet receiver and an AK74 parts kit.

Well that sucks. I'm sure we have the Liberals to thank for that.

Is there anything else that is considered Restricted, or non Restricted that fires the 5.45x39?

There is a S&W AR that will fire 5.45X39 " With the ever increasing cost of 5.56mm and .223 ammo, Smith & Wesson is pleased to announce the M&P15R Rifle. This new rifle is chambered for the less expensive and abundant 5.45 x 39mm cartridge. The rifle comes with a flat-top receiver and the M4-style post front sight ready to accept the optics of your choice or a back-up iron sight."

why doesn't someone resurrect valmet and buy out the name? They'd make a killing as then everyone could be legal when owning an AK!

As far as I've been told, Valmet is no longer in business and died off some time ago.

It doesn't work that way. To the RCMP firearms people, there is a finite number of Valmets, you can't make more. Valmet no longer exists, so there can be no more Valmets.

There are alot of "legally owned AKs" in Canada ... Norinco was good to us before certain OIC, SAP's etc. etc.

They were listed at $400 through Century International in Montreal new in box ...

Those where AK 47'a and such in 762/39 amd some 223,s.
I don't think at that time there where any surplus AK 74's.
At least when I was dealing with century, I don't remember any.
