AK Diablo

it will be hard to sit a mag and perform IA.

Why? The mag does not rock into place. It just clips like a standard AR mag. I see no issue with IA's.

Gentlemen:

Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe that’s a piston driven upper is it not??

With the affordability of 7.62x39, the fact that its piston driven, with the addition of the proper rail for easy access and maintenance, makes a very strong case for having AND shooting one of these.

As for mag design, the demonstration above seems to show that they have the usual bugs and issues worked out

One would need to do some cost/benefit analysis, but I would not be surprised if the cost and hassle of having one brought into the country legally, would not be shortly offset by the savings in ammo. Particularly if one is an active shooter.

Most interesting. Tagged for future review

Questar has a couple 223 Diablo uppers in their inventory, with a starting price just north of $2000, chances are the Ak uppers won't be anything less than that. Other brand uppers are already in the country, they are reasonably priced to make worthwhile to build one just for giggles :)

*edit* the AK upper I am refering to are gas ones, not piston deriven one, thanks to AbH for reminding me :)

I think you are confused all of the PWS uppers are piston driven, the PWS complete uppers (like this one) are long stroke piston designs and probablly the best piston upper out there.

The PWS retro-fit kits for the AR15 are short stroke design with very few parts and work very well and they dont seem to have the problems with bolt carrier tilt that other piston designs have. ( I see no signs of wear on my kit yet)

Run the IA drill for AR in you head.....

Bolt fully forwards, weapon does not fire - what do you do?

Try to do this with a long curvy mag!

You make sure the mag is in place and then you #### and fire.. Did you have anything else in mind?

You mean you want to slap the bottom of the mag? Just hold it and push it up
You can still slap the bottom of the mag, even if its curved, unless your arms are extra short.

I am not sure I like to hammer a long and crooked nail to the ground. Physics doesn't compute.

but whatever float your boat.

I don't get the repeated attempts to chamber x39 in the AR. A mediocre cartridge in a mediocre gun...

Well, that may be your opinion, and you wellcome to it.

Perhaps you may even be correct from certain perspectives (lethality of M43 ball ammo), however have you seen the price of a create of Chezch ammo?? Locally I can get 1120 rounds for 198 + tax. I can not reload my 223 for that cost per round of components, never mind my time to make those reloads.

Further, I like the AR platfrom, and no matter how hard all paper and carboard targets charge me, that ammo and carbine are gauranteed to put holes in it. :D

Now we can discuss wound channels left in geletan blocks if you like, but I would rather be out shooting!!

Food for though no??

respectfully yours

AbH

PS: now where did I put that??

Here it is

Hello all!!

I was wondering if there were any other updates on this. I see Questar has a listing for this, but none in stock.

https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1054&bc=no

I can appreciate the high price tag, but I still see this combo as extremely attractive, (especially with the price of ammo at wolverine) pending the conformation of bore diameters, and ease of maintenance.

Any futher info or thoughts on this??

I would love one but not really much point to any 7.62X39 rifle until we have descent non-corrosive ammo.

Way too much hassle too clean everytime.

Ozz:

Its a piston driven upper, there for it does not poop where it eats, would it not be therefore easier to clean??

I know that you are familiar with the PWS uppers, so perhaps you could enlightend me with your experience with them in 5.56 nato.

Look forward to your comments

Your still going to have to do a thorough cleaning of the gas block and piston, I gave up shooting the SKS because of this crap ammo. I got lazy one time with a SKS and it was choked up with rusty crap everywhere , looked horrible.

I wouldnt risk a expensive upper. I`ll try and do a range report with PWS uppers one of these days.
