Is it legal to buy AK mags from the store and convert your sks to a 5/30 rounder?

Seems like a fun project, it would make it just like an ak47...T6 stock...30/5 rounds...3 moa...detachable??

yes, you can buy an AK mag from a store but it will be 30/5 rounder already.

if its for a SKS-D then no conversion required.

and if its for a reg SKS , its legal for you can convert your SKS to accept the AK mag however it would require incredible amount of work to make it fit, not worth the headache, easiest way is to get a duck-bill 30/5 SKS detachable mag, it will look and feel the same .

I was lookin at the duck bills here in Calgary, but, hes out of stock now.

I thought it would be cool to have a 5/75 Drum capable carbine.

Hey just trying to save you money, the thrill of having a mostly empty (blocked too 5) Magazine hanging out of your rifle getting caught on things wears pretty thin after a while. :D

Oh ####, I can take out the pin and have a 75 round freaking machine gun for when I go to the States. Then just keep the 5/30 mags in Canada.

Ebay sometimes sells good used SKS drums for 40-100 dollars American depending on what day they come on.

PS..anyone get any factory freak accurate Norinco SKS'?

like 2 moa or 1.5 moa...

I'm asking because I saw this guy getting all rounds on a paper target pretty far out...maybe 300 feet or something.

If you can find the selling in the USA willing to put a pop rivet in the mag he is selling you to restrict it to 5 rounds, and if you can get it through customs.

Personal I'd leave the SKS at home, and rent or borrow an AK from whatever place you are shooting at in the USA. :D

As for accuracy, I've gotten some pretty good results with mine. Then again I adjusted the stock to fit me, and I took the time to learn how to shoot it.

Oh yeah, they are good shooters some of them.

I have a buddy trying to tell me that an AK47 is better, I then said that mine can be made better for less than 300 dollars.

Its funny how we can't own G3's or AK's in Canada, yet we can have clones of them essentially like M-14s or SKS conversions.

I have a few friends that used both the AK, and the SKS in several wars in their countries (Yugos) , and pretty much they said the SKS was more accurate, but it's lack of select fire, and limited mag capacity (in stock form) was pretty limiting.

But apparently the grenade launcher feature they had on their version made up for allot of the SKS shortcomings.

the biggest cap mag they could get is a 20 in a non-detachable . heres a pic.

ps. the 20rd mag sells for US$70-90 in the US.
