Do not understand why type 81 doesn't come with this easy side mount or at least holes pre-drilled&tapped... such an easy thing to do.
Also do not understand, why importers do not do their homework and do not bring this cheap side mount rail to Canada.
Ultimate failure for optic options from the manufacturer & importers/ sellers.

Anyhow, here is a cheap & easy to install, and presumably steady side mount for TYPE 81, which doesn't compromise any of the stock function.
Total price is under 50CaD (provded, that you have some basic tools in your garage and hands growing from the correct place).

I may install this for you if you bring it to my garage :)

Standard AK mounts also fit and they also allow use of open sights.

CONS of standard mount: But standard mounts elevate optical axis 5mm higher and 5mm to the left.
PROS of standard mount: At the same time, some standard AK mounts allow better approximation of the optics to the eye, decreasing eye relief and increasing dominant eye field of view

Part 2B:

My guess would be because the standard issue Type 81 was never intended to have optics. Easier to mass produce the basic rifle and then retro fit a select few for optic support later for special divisions.

It would be nice tho! I certainly enjoy the plug and play optic setup of my CSA VZ 58.

definitely a valid reason, but, at the same time, original model was produced in 81, the re-production in 2017 or so... one would expect that at least a folding version would have a plate. this plate costs like 10cents in China I guess, they do not have any idea where and how to mount it, and, thus, no cheap technological process to accommodate this plate.
HiCal, Tactical imports etc, may propose a reasonable price for mounting the plate and dressing the folder into plastic is presumably "more tactical", yet all they offer is a front end picatinny rail condom, which looks like a hybrid of monkey and rhinoceros...
crazy Wolrd, most businesses are not passionate about what they are doing: only survival or pure money making or both
sad

PS Russian AK74 and on models all have the plate to mount optics; even predrilling holes for a specific plate would be helpful.. but no...

Making any changes to a production line cost far more than 10 cent each but cost isn't the soul reason not to, its bcos they don't need to at this time when they have an option (quad) that doesnt alter the gun and that's a good thing, they dont want to lose the buyers that want it stock as when it was first issued.

In time when market get saturated, innovation kick in to get you to rid of your old model and buy new.

Vz58 didn't get a built in mount till a decade later.

This is how optics "eats" open sights, I still cannot get this idea, when optics is on the way of back-ups and people even don't bother with quick release for optics... I guess, this doesn't matter for most civilian shooters.... if you were in the army, in combat or hunting you'd never do this:

and this is how hybrid of a monkey and rhinoceros looks like-rifle on the left... come on... you should not be a designer to understand that wood and plastic, which looks like wood cannot go well along with super tactical metal in the front end... seriously-this looks like condom of some sort

I decided not to go with paracord at this time, but rather have a storage pocket
This completes the project for me:

Plenty of hunters mount scopes on rifles with iron sights without using QD mounts. If you've got anything but a really cheap optic chances that you'll need the irons is low... Hell lots of hunting rifles don't even have irons from the factory...

The only hunting rifles that regularly have QD mounts are medium to big bore rifles intended for dangerous game. Some guys run them on other stuff too, but it's definitely not the norm...

no matter how e pensive is the optics it breaks same way when rifle falls down etc. so relying just on optics is crazy for military and hunters , unless your distances are 500 meters and more and even then imagine u hunt something and boom your score is down, u ve travelled 200 or 350 miles to hu t and your day is ruined

Its really not that big of a deal to most hunters here in North America. Id say for 90% of those hunters... the truck, and a sporting goods store is never more then 3 hours away lol. Plus ive yet to experience an optic fail out in the field, nor any of the hunters I know personally.

yes for hunting within 2 hrs drive from a supply store, should be fine...
