Hey. So I bought an AK underfolder from a fellow member here. I want to mount it on my VZ 58 in x39.

My thoughts were this.

Make a trunion housing by taking a sling plate or side folding stock, and welding basically a box (cube) except the end where I need access to bolt it into the receiver.

Should be simple right?...

Anyone ever attach one of these successfully? How'd you do it?

When I bought my VZ from Wolverine back in 2007, they also had AK style under folding stock so I grabbed one. I think it cost $39.99 back then. Maybe one of the dealer can still get them?

Looks good.

How is it attached?

Close up pics of where it is attached?

Before persueing it (I know it LOOKS cool and all) have you ever fired a rifle with an AK underfolder on it? I have used several AK's in the past and it is NOT a very comfortable stock to use neither on the shoulder or the face. If yours is NR and you plan on shooting it outside / hunting with it in winter it's very cold and uncomfortable.

One of the local club members here bought Bfiles' rifle with the underfolder on it so if Bfiles doesn't chime in aI can get pics of the actual rifle. As I said they look cool but comfortable... definitely not.

This is very true. As ridiculous as it may sound, even with the light recoil 7.62x39 produces, I always get a bruised shoulder when I shoot with that under folder stock. Probably the most uncomfortable stock I ever tried.

I actually have not. I did assume the low recoil of x39 would not be an issue. As far as hunting with it, I won't be, but I will shoot it in the cold occasionally.

I may have to design a custom pad somehow that follows the contours of the stock.

Thank you for that insight.

my opinion differ, I found the cheek weld more comfy than a VZ sidefolder, it works better with RD because the stock is level with the barrel.

there are zillions of AK underfolder out there so how bad can it be?

I shouldn't be saying nice things about the VZ underfolder because Im collecting them. lol.

heres my three underfolders.

I've run an AK with an under folder, too - they suck. Lousy "cheek weld" (if that's what you'd call it) and much of the time, a nasty little bruise. Might be different with a Vz (I found the Vz folder much more comfortable) - but I'm guessing you can't fold/unfold the stock with a mag in the well. The triangle folder on the Krink is better than both.

No doubt , majority of gunnutz do not like the vz underfold , I have heard it all before since it was introduced.

My thoughts are, the ak underfold served a purpose, ergonomic weren't a consideration. Otherwise why keep making them by so many countries?

To twist, many people have tried but we wouldn't hear from them again. The vz underfolder does not work well with the iron sight so if you can find a solution to solve that issue , it would certainly be an improvement.

Thank you for sharing youd experience with it.

I bought a piece of stock steel to fold over and make into a piece for the trunion.

Is that what you did? Or do they actually make a piece OEM stock for it?

no, all mine were manufactured by Dlask (site sponsor) and they look the same as bellero's.

there was a big demand for them but the production ended after the first run due to negative responses (you can guess what they are), which seems strange to me, its like complaining about the underfolder on a MP40.

for more info do a search "underfolder" in red rifles and good luck.
