anyone know of any business in canada dealing the ARMSCOR rimfire rifles?
like the ak22...they don't seem too expensive and i think i'd save money selling my 10/22 and getting this rifle instead, rather than pumping money into a krinker kit to build an ak type rimfire.

There were 2 common .22s simulating AKs. The Italian Armi Jaeger was one, is prohib, and which was actually constructed something like an AK. The one that I sold was one of the most miserable .22s it has ever been my misfortune to have to get to work reliably. The other look a like was a Phillipine rifle, based on the standard Squires Bingham Model 20 platform. At a glance it looked AKish, but that was only skin deep. There are those who are fans of SB semi autos; I am not one of them. This one is also listed as prohib. Shows just how evil the AK appearance is, because this rifle is essentailly just another low cost .22, a real sheep in wolf's clothing. I my opinion, the 10/22 is a fine recreational .22. Dressing it up for Hallowe'en might be fun, but does nothing to improve it as a rifle.

I have owned several of the AK22's and the armi Jager model. All were poor
ly manufactured and had a lot of black painted die cast zinc in the construction . All were a waste of money.

Why the SB AK22 is prohib and their M-16 simulations are non restricted is just another of those utterly nonsensical things so common throughout the entire Firearms Program. Obviously appearance was the only "logic" behind prohibiting the AK version. The M-16 versions are just as ugly, and functionally no different, yet were ignored. Maybe the edition of Gun Digest used for reference in the decision making process did not illustrate the M-16 look a like.

why dont you get a 10/22 (dependable gun. I had one for a month it was great :D )
and get one of those AK looking stocks?

Dont tell me thats not cool!

I guess it would be time to start writing the new minister of public safety and request/demand a "review" of the !2(4) and 12(5) prohibited "variant" lists. For those firearms that would remain ont he list then the RCMP forensics reports should be made public to explain "why" the remaining firearms are classed as "variants".

If you want to do something with your 10/22 to make it look like something its not, there are plans available to fabricate a housing, etc., to make it look like a reduced size BMG, either air or water cooled.

wow...never thought i'd start something that got this much response so quickly...
so... no chance on the ak22's and they're made of poor quality eh? ok...

so i guess my next plan is saving up for a krinker plinker.

Another option is to go with a 10/22 Dragnuov stock - the one from Choate, not Advanced Technologies (The ATI stock is Fuuuugly!). You can dress it up with a cheeckpiece (which is also very functional) and it gets that Russki look. It really depends on what you'll use the gun for. I use mine mainly for gophers (which is God's gift to the shooter out here in Saskatchewan) so I really like my Dragunov stock, and some of the mods I've made to the gun (I put a foregrip on it for fast acquisition and rapid fire shooting). I also like the Dragunov stock, as I like to use a scope on my gopher gun. The Krinker looks like a fun little gun - but for me - if you get the folder and the little barrel it becomes restricted and not really that useful (unless you REALLY must have a tiny .22 range gun?). If you keep the longer barrel length, it doesn't really keep its AK looks, and sort of defeats the purpose. Anyways, one thing is for certain - I don't know too many people who are dissatisfied with a Ruger 10/22 no matter what platform its on. This gun will last you for the rest of your life (and quite possibly longer) if you take care of it. Mags, spare parts, and a mind boggling array of options are availiable for this gun. That way - if you should change your mind about your AK configuration later, you can sell of the kit, and pop your receiver into something different.

If you really want an AK style firearm (my other favourite firearm - cruelly kept from us by the fools in gov't) I'd suggest you look at a VZ-58 (restricted) or a CZ-858 (non-restricted and the one I own). The ammo isn't quite as cheap as .22 - but its really not that bad if you buy the Czech surplus (roughly $0.13 per round). They run around $650 - but thats what your Krinker plinke is probably going to cost you once you pick up some extra mags for it anyways - if your reason for buying the gun is the AK looks and feel - you'll be much happier with the VZ or CZ than any .22 dressed in AK clothing.

Not that I'm biased or anything - other than the fact that I feel the Ruger 10/22 is the most reliable .22 auto ever made...:D

i already have a 10/22 and i bought it cause i could shoot it on the indoor range that i regularly visit...actually...i'm the RO haha. but yah..this is why i have to stick with .22LR. i'm actually thinking of saving up for the krinker plinker kit because you can keep it out of the restricted class by welding the folder open, which i don't mind.
and yes...the 10/22 is a good gun. however i being the typical poor university student,...i can't even afford the small accesories yet such as the trigger kit, extended bolt handle, auto bolt release etc... which is really all i want aside from a body kit.
my buddy bought the mg42 kit but he wasn't happy with it because it's all plastic apparently... so that option lost appeal to me as well.
