Know its been a long time but do you remember which 5.56 mags you were able to fit with your 5.56 hunter?

I did see your question in your thread, I just don't have an answer for you, sorry!
My Valmet was converted to 7.62x39 so I didn't have any reason to look for 5,56 mags. I tested some _metal_ 5.56 mags in the past which worked but I can't tell you what they were any more.
At this time I only have one strange single stack 5.56 mag - it was for some obscure rifle - it fits but is narrower at the top than the opening in the receiver - will not be reliable. No other 5.56 mags handy. AR mags fit with the adapter I have.
I have some Russian 5.45 bakelite mags for the AKS-74u - they do not fit
I have Russian AKM mags for the AKM - they fit and some unknown source Chinese 7.62x39 mags - they also fit. So anything that is externally dimensioned the same as a 7.62x39 mag should fit.
Polytech 5.56mm mags are about the only option for easy modification, although at current asking price those may be too rich for your blood. Galil mags fit, but the feed angle results in dangerous operation, or so I have read online.
Original Valmet mags do occasionally surface, but are priced very dearly due to their $400 USD value Stateside. The last 2 I bought cost me $400 CAD (for both) at a local gun show....
