Akkar Churchill SxS

I have had both the 528 as well as the 512. Both gave me no problems and went bang when you pulled the trigger. The 28ga was built on a proper scaled frame. In my opinion they are a well made but plane no frills double that will get the job done. A good hunting gun and maybe a backup gun for someone shooting in rough conditions and don’t want to use their higher grade shotgun.

Glad to see you guys are enjoying your Churchill’s. I’m keeping my eyes open for a 20g to complement my 12. Although it needs to have a pistol grip and 28” barrels.

I just picked up a 12g Churchill 206 Orcap O/U and it’s and equally impressive gun. It warrants a full review as well once I have some time.

Here's a picture of mine! It was a pleasure to carry around in the woods after our moose was on the ground. Filled my grouse quota in short order. I almost ran out of shot shells ;-)

Anyone knows what kind of chokes a Churchill 520 takes? I've poored over the manual and website and I cannot find the information anywhere. I have a Beretta/Benelli mobil choke I'm selling and took a quick look and it doesn't look anything like the one I have right now.

I'd be tempted to say Remington chokes...but I don't know enough about chokes to say for sure.

They are definitely not mobil. I compared both side-by-side with a Mobil and they are not the same.

I checked a few pics and they do look like rem-chokes.

Thanks Beretta!

No worries. I haven't really looked at my 20g in detail seeing that I recently got it and haven’t been out shooting with it yet, so it gave me an excuse to pull it out and see what its all about. Some Turkish guns use rem-choke on their 12g guns and mobil chokes on their 20’s so I had to see what chokes mine was threaded for

I know this is an old thread......

Picked up a 520 last week. Used but doesn't look like it was used at all. Paid $1000 tax in and new ones seem to be around $1060 plus tax.

28", english stock. Nice soft case although not balanced very well.

My first side by each, and I am extremely happy with it. Seems to shoot good and it is very nice to carry.

Apparently, the turkish companies are known to change choke threads on guns over time, depending on what they can source. Website says mobil, but I'm quite sure mine are remchokes, as others have mentioned.

I'd like to find the same gun with a pistol grip to try.

A problem arises in translation. The turks say mobile chokes meaning the chokes can be removed. Some ppl mistake that as beretta Mobil chokes. Some companies do use beretta Mobil while others use rem chokes or their own design

I am also interested in a 20ga side by side and the 520 looks amazing.

I wonder if OP can give some feedback on the shotgun (different model) after all these years.

I still love them and currently still have 3 of them in my safe. The original 12g that I featured in my initial post is still my go to for everything except waterfowl and turkey hunting. Im also still using it for shooting clays whenever I have a chance to get out. The action is still tight and the gun still locks up tight and forearm continues to snap on tight with zero movement. Still feels very solid. The trigger is still very comfortable and light. I do have to admit that I use the 12g far more then the 20g so the 20 still feels like it did when it came out of the box.

Now this thread has me wanting a 512 lol. I’ve never owned a sxs but my interest in them has been growing lately, might have to scratch that itch 👍
I currently own a Churchill 812 Oxycap ( basically the new 206 series) and it has been a very enjoyable and dependable shotgun. I’ve been using it for Trap for almost a year and a half and it has performed admirably and in my opinion looks fantastic. Probably close to 2000 rounds at this point and zero problems. I’m thinking a 512 would look good beside it 😉

My obsession with Sxs’s started a couple years ago. They are a lot of fun to shoot for sure. Having had a couple Turkish guns earlier I just could not get to like them. Then started collecting the Spanish made guns. What sets them apart for me is the fit is just perfect for me. The cast is just right. I prefer the splinter forend as well. They shoulder quick and point to so nice. Are very light and have tons of soul.
Mine are all 1970s made but look like they were just built. Some blueing loss here and there but never miss a beat. When walking the bird fields I’ll stop and look at them and wonder what all hunts they’ve been on in their day.
To me sxs shotgunning is more about the gun than the prey. Guess I’m getting old.

I finally pulled the trigger for a Churchill 520 gold sxs 26 inch pistol grip for grouse and rabbit hunting.
I will post some comments after I receive it and do some testing at the range!

I received the shotgun and went to the range!

The triggers and barrels selectors are great and crisp. It shoots really well and it is very easy to aim. I love it.

It is light and tight. More recoil than I expected for a 20ga.

The only problem I have is when installing the forend, I need to force it and help the release lever to go in place. After that , when shooting, the lever goes out because of the recoil. I think it needs to be used a little bit more so everything fits better but a little bit concern if the release lever keeps doing that after shooting.

Pictures of what happens after shooting:

After installing it, everything feels ok even though I need to push hard to get it in place.

The release lever opens like this after shooting a couple of shells:

And I need to push it back inside.
The forend does not move or feel loose at all

It get easier to remove and install after shooting around 50 shells. I will go back to the range soon and see if it is still happening.
