The ak can shoot after being covered in sand and dirt (and apparently after being run over as well). I wonder how the vz would fare under these same conditions

and dragged through swamp water, dropped repeatedidly.. its an amazing firearm..

I asked the same question on another board but no one knew.I finally found out
why the hell AK's are illegal in canada from wikapedia it was one 3 letter word
OKA.Just thank your lucky stars they didn't have shotguns and hunting rifles.

Actually it's is simpler (ie more moronic) than that....Gun Digest.

You have to understand that is pure troll type statements. Beware.
If someone was really hell bent on getting rid of our VZ58s (and actually new the difference between the two) I'm sure they'd have read the legal documents by now. They're not hard to come by.

Stupid gun laws explained. The NFA asked for the documents that led to the initial OIC's being issued that started all of this crap, under access to information. I have read, and perhaps someone here can confirm that in the package that they received were photo copied pages from the "Gun Digest Book of Assault Weapons" for that year with X's on pages that had pictures of firearms to be banned. This is why we can never own some firearms that were never produced beyond prototype (it is illegal in Canada to own an HK G-11, for example) Maybe we could have someone who knows firsthand write a reply to this and sticky it?

Maybe Garry B ?

The Valmet 78 exemption proves the pointlessness of this OIC. The fact that thousands of grandfathered Canadians can still own these lawfully shows that the regs are stupid and redundant.

The new government can change the OIC so that these guns revert back to restricted, owners can once again buy sell and own their private property within a regulatory framework, everybody's happy.

Will they do this ? There are political ramifications to consider. But the fact remains, if you ever want to own a semi auto AK variant, better start writing the Minister of Justice, Minister of Public Safety and your MP and start putting the screws in.
