Instilling brains into judges makes more sense. Mandatory sentences, IMHO, are NFG. There are always cases where these things don't quite fit. I know what you mean, but I don't think there is any such thing as "Common Sense" in this world today.
 
I am very happy to hear they were stripped of everything. Maybe they will meet a new boyfriend inside. No excuse for that behavior.

For a guy with the moniker you have, that's kind of funny actually!

I don't hunt bears. But any near my home, sure get treated pretty damn rough, and most decide that elsewhere is better. But that, is not what these guys were about, anyways.

It's just a name, don't read too much into it....

I don't trust any hunting related article written by most any media source, especially not CNN.

Let's look at it from a different angle.....

Alaska's spring bear season was open during the time this offence occurred. We shouldn't assume they had a license, but nowhere does it state they didn't. They come upon the den, shoot the adult bear for which they have a license, then realize it was a sow with cubs, so they kill the cubs too, which is the proper thing to do as they would starve.
They return to butcher the bear.
Two weeks later guilt sets in and they report themselves.


So are they the bloodthirsty babykillers CNN makes them out to be or are they hunters that made a mistake? How many here would report themselves?

A lot of knee jerk reaction posts here. Read between the lines and ignore the "CNN spin".

Yeah, I wasn't reading too much into it. Just thought it was actually funny. :)

Cubs must've been too small to make a decent set of slippers, is my best guess.
Having the camera right there taking pictures of them while they carry out the deed, and returning later, well, dunno...
Lotsa dumb in that gene pool.

And...the pointless wailing and wringing of hands shall continue, as folks try to make like they have never done anything wrong.
Personally I don't care if somebody wants to save the Bears. Hell. Collect the whole set! The only downside to me, is that a canner big enough to fit a 45 gallon drum in to, is so expensive!
 
Here is one that confuses me. They shot a bear in her den bad enough but did they not see before they pulled the trigger the dam bear also had a collar on so was being monitored
Kind of reminds me of the dude down here that poached a moose and hung the collar on the barn wall and could not understand how he got caught
