Heard the loper draws were out so went to check if I got drawn for goat. Guess the good lord decided to cheer me up cuz I got the goat draw! I am one HAPPY fella!

Only 8 residents get the draw per year. I know 3 people who got drawn in the last 2 years, and went on all 3 hunts, two of the three were successful, both last year. Man I am pumped I finally get to go and do some shooting, instead of watching. Can't believe i got drawn, I was planning to pay for a non-res hunt in BC because I really want to get one.

How'd everyone else make out?

How many put in for these 8 tags, what's the odds?
 
I think the odds are like 0.02% or something like that. And I'll take lots of pics for sure. Might even have to video this one!

The draw is also a once in a lifetime draw, you cannot apply again if you do get it. So I will hunt until I get a goat, no matter how long it takes. Can't wait for Sep 10th!!!
 
Congrat Rocks, you have a horse shoe wedged somewhere! Very happy for you and looking forward to those pics.

Hope the BIL got his Antelope draw, it will be a great excuse to climb out of the salt mine and escape for a couple days.

You're a lucky man, congrads. I don't blame your for hunting hard 'till you get one. As for myself, I drew a non-trophy antelope tag. I was recently wondering why I ever put in for non trophy (I'm also in the running for trophy), then I remembered....I just want to go hunting....period. Anyways, may the hunting God smile upon you :). Anyhow, here's a pic that'll get your "goat". The "actual" goat was much dirtier and yellower than the final mount. It pretty snow white and doesn't reflect the true nature of the animal. Should you get yours mounted, make sure to take pics and have the taxidermist recompose it's true nature.

What distinguishes a non-trophy from a trophy antelope? I assume antler length, but a specific length?

Yes, it is antler lenght. And I must sheepishly admit that I truly can't tell you the exact difference right now. I'm currently sitting in a Motel room in Lac La Biche. Don't have my regs with me. I just put in for the draw on non-trophy, hoping to get some experience and seeing trophies. But hey....once I go out, I'll have it right. Just wanna hunt bud, it won't happen till October, so I can still have time to get my #### together. :)
 
Gitrdun, is that your goat? Cool mount, was thinking about mounts last night (no need for comments), I have neither the cash nor room for a full mount so I'll be going with shoulder, I like the pedestal mounts so thats what I'd probably go with if I get said goat.

I'd like to hazard a guess on that goat and say it's about 9 1/4"? Close or not?

So what happens if you shoot one at 200yds and you get up to it and its 3.5 inches? Pretty hard to glass one down to a 1/2 inch, (for me anyway.:) )

No, it isn't. It is my friend's trophy. He got it on a guided hunt. I had such an opportunity, but I had had a sheep tag. And that was the last year they were open in AB. (1980 something) I wish I could tell you it was mine....but no cigar. I had a chance but blew it. Climb baby blimb.. One thing that I can tell you about goat hunting is that the climb up will be much easier than the climb down. Oh yeah, bring good optics and bring your balls attached good and strong.

I don't know where to plan on hunting, but I've seen some good billies around Ghould's Dome. I was glassing them babies and seen some grizz too.

Pronghorns have horns,not antlers,and a legal trophy pronghorn has to have a horn at least 5" in length.A pronghorns ears are at least 5" long,so if the horns are significantly longer than the ears,it will be legal.I will be a priority 6 myself next year for pronghorn,and my hunting partners will be priority 5.They haven't hunted pronghorn,so I am anxiously waiting until we all have enough priority to draw a tag in my favorite zone..

When looking for "trophy" antelope, it's really not hard to judge in the field. A good one will have horns at least twice as long as their ears with the tips curled back or inwards in a nice heart shape. The really good pronghorn will have this same length, but will be noticeably darker because of additional mass. Like stubblejumper said, a pronghorn with horns longer than his ears will be legal. There are a lot of 13"+ bucks out there though, so be patient. A monster will be one 16"+.
 
Dont want to hijack this thread but just checked and didnt get my speed goat draw this year,but all is well cause I will be hopefully moving by that time. But here is my first goat from 2003...had to borrow my buddies 300 wby cause I dont own any thing that small....One shot at the whole gracefull distance of 127 yards....and every one said it was gonna be a tough hunt!!

It went right on 15 inches....and was damn tasty to boot...
