I shot this sow at 9 pm over my bait Sunday evening. Never had a tree stand and I never wanted to risk a ground blind getting damaged, so I sat up against a spruce tree on the ground. Got to my bait at 3:00 pm so I had to wait 6 hours. Bear came in downwind sniffing the air to my extreme right, so I couldn't shoot till she got closer to the barrel. 25 yard shot behind the shoulder with a 130 gr Hornady out of a .270 put it right on its back. I followed up with 2 insurance shots and the bear was done like dinner. Heres some pics. Hide squares at 5'4" and is at the taxidermists being tanned. Will get the skull done as well. Kept one hind quarter to try and gave the other one to a friend that eats bear. If I don't like it he can have the other quarter as well.

Nice. I'm hoping to get a spring bear with a bit of luck, just being out and about in the next few weeks.

PS - I don't think you needed any follow up shots. I've shot bears like that with the exact same load, and if they flop over and stop moving, you're good. Still approach cautiously, of course, but no need for more shooting if the bear isn't going anywhere.
