Just wondering whats out there for 3 gun style competitions in Alberta? I started participating in the long range matches a couple years ago but I would like to start in 3 gun and/or IPSC as well. Where do I start? do I need my Black Badge course?

As far as I know, there are three groups participating in 3 gun events in Alberta. To the south is the Lethbridge club, in the Edmonton area is the Wild Rose Action Shooters out of Spruce Grove, and in the north is the Peace Country Fish and Game Association in Peace River.

I can only speak for our own club in Peace River. We put on mostly defensive style matches that make shooters think or test different skill sets. We hold a few matches a year and will start back up in April/May. Our matches have upwards of 20 people, usually have both cash and donated prizes and a lunch hot meal (bbq) is included in the match fee. We do not require any certificates to attend a match but we will make sure that we have faith in your firearm handling abilities prior to the match.

Hope to see some more shooters from the south this upcoming year.

Lethbridge usually has a couple of 3 gun shoots every year in addition to 1 or 2 IPSC matches. For the 3 gun events, no special training needed, just be safe. For IPSC, you'll need your black badge course.

You should also call Pheonix range in Edmonton and enquire as to the next Black Badge course, so you can A) learn the IPSC style range etiquette that is also practiced in the Wild Rose Action Shooters 3 gun matches and B) Get involved in IPSC, which totally ROX!
