While reading the 2026 Alberta Hunting Regulations I came across the paragraph stating that crossbow permits had been repealed and that you required the medical form to be filled out, signed by a physician and carried with you during the archery season. As a permit holder I contacted St. Paul Fish and Wildlife who confirmed for me that if you hold the permit you are good to go. It is still valid and when the five year permit expires you simply print off a new valid one from the RELM site. They are lifetime permits with a five year renewal required. If anybody else was confused by the statement in the regulations I also checked with the Edmonton regional office on 50th Street last year and was told the same thing. It would be nice if they had clarified this rather than simply stating they were repealed. The medical form would appear to be for new applicants.
