Alberta diamond jubilee 1911

They're real alright. I remember seeing them on dealers' shelves and at gun shows when I was a kid. I think a calgary dealer even had one in on consignment a year or three ago, if my memory is correct. I seem to remember a Saskatchewan one as well, but I could be wrong about that.. As for the value, I have no clue what these commeratives go for.

Last time I saw one in a shop they wanted 2500, but that was 20+ years ago. Seems to me there was on in CA for around 1800 not that long ago though. - dan
If you can get one cheap enough, you could ditch the gawdy grips, put on some double diamond hardwoods or checkered hardwoods with Colt medallions & have yourself a pretty good shootin' Colt Series 70 pistola.

The commeratives are from 1980, Alberta's 75th anniversary as a province. You don't remember what a big deal it was? And I still consider this province to be gun friendly.

True true , we are still better off then other provinces , but the liberalization has been creeping in , lol .
I live in a small and very pro gun town , but prior to that spent many years in the city . Funny I forget 1980 almost totally . I was 16 that year and too wrapped up in mememe to notice something as important as our anniversary , sad but true .
I remember when they showed up at Klondike. And yes, Liberals keep sneaking over the borders. Hopefully the rollbacks in the patch will result in a lot of East bound movers. - dan
I grew up in Calgary in the 70's and 80's and yeah, even in the cities there was a much gun-friendly culture. All of the department stores even had gun counters back then. My better half is from a farming community in southern Alberta and most of her family still lives out there. I love that when her nephew and his buddies skip school it is not to go hang out at the 7-11 like little hooligans, but to go hunting between classes! They are good kids and surprisingly have values that you don't see to often in today's youth... but now i'm getting off topic!
That may very well be the sliver lining to this downturn! If there is one...

Yes they were real. Commemorative Arms was still in business back in 1979 and saw the fortune URAC was making off of all the Winchester commemorative rifles that were being pumped out for every possible occasion that came to mind.
They commissioned Colt to make a limited run of 1911s for the 75th anniversary of Alberta becoming a province.
Russel Sporting Goods, where I worked at the time brought in several, IIRC they sold for $1095.00 for the standard model and $1995.00 for the same gun but with a .25 ct diamond front site. Allegedly the standard model only had 1500 or 2000 made, the deluxe model was either 100 or 250 total production.
We sold quite a few to the big buck o n g exec's and a couple judges despite the Lieberal's NEP.
These guns tend to surface in cycles, fortunately some were kept as collector guns and never shot, others however were shot and hence de-valued significantly. Like all collectables, you can only command what someone is willing to pay. These never had the appeal of the US collectors like the Winchester limited edition "Duke" which was a model 94 with diamond front site.
1 of the diamond site versions was stolen and then used in a stick up and destroyed in the mid 80s. I had a wet eye as it was being destroyed
